What is the word for a person who uses seemingly complex but invalid arguments?

I believe it starts with an s. It is used in a perjorative way.

Update:

Not semantics, but thanks. It's a noun, can be used like "Bob sounds smart, but he's really just a ____"

Update 2:

Not self-aggrandizement, its one word, very specific

Why would you want a pejorative term? Surely you realize using such a word demeans you even more than the person you're insulting. Look, people who do that are insecure and afraid. Pity them, don't be miserable towards them. I really doubt you're the only one who sees through their bull shite; just smile, nod and move on.

Mixing up the meaning of the question can be done through use of "semantics". Is the arguer merely arguing semantics?
