Islam on Slavery. What do Muslims think today?

I asked a question about Slavery in Islam and got this answer.

"Kaz, did you get that from Islam-watch.com? the Quraysh tribe were amongst the first to try to assasinate the prophet and his family."

Firstly that's not an answer.... and no, I didn't get it from any website, I got the info from the Koran.

So Mohammad (their perfect man and role model) took many, many slaves (he married a Jewish women (after murdering her husband, father and brother) and raped her on the first night), so thanks to this how do Muslims view slavery?

If they are against it surely they are condemning Mo's behaviour, indeed their GODS word as he gave Mo the permission to take Slaves.

Most seem to be against its practice. There are plenty of excuses for the Qur'an condoning it, but they almost never go so far as to suggest it'd be ethical to have it today.
