WHY do you think people are so mean on here?

I personally think the world's going to hell in a handbasket. Why do you think people are so mean to eachother on Answers, Facebook, etc.?

My explanation is that it's easy to be an ****** when you're behind a computer.

Update:

I never said that it hurt my feelings or I couldn't handle it. I've just been around long enough to notice that people are becoming increasingly rude to eachother on a daily basis.

Oh I totally agree. We are just awful to each other, to other species, to our planet! People just love to hate, especially on other people's opinions. Since most of Y/A? is opinionated, there sure seem to be a ton of haters out here. I think it's sad, really. This IS in fact why our world is such a friggin mess. It makes me sad.

If you're like some people, they just don't tolerate sheer stupidity and idiots. And they don't tolerate them in real life either, so it's not a matter of being "stronger behind a computer". I mean come on, is it really a shocker that humans can be rude/mean- natured? If you ask a question on here, or post something on Facebook, you should basically always prepare yourself for that one/few bad seeds that ruin it all for you. But if you're a naturally emotional person who gets offended or their feelings hurt too easy, then maybe social internet sites just aren't for you. But how do you deal with it in real life if you can't even handle it on the internet?

"Internet Bravado". That means some people think "I'm anonymous [they aren't, by the way; it's very easy to figure out who's doing it unless they are using a public computer], so I can say any outrageous thing that pops into what passes as my mind."

I would think the reason people are more open or honast online is because they are not in front of your face and are hiding "behind the computer". For the most part it is

Human nature to avoid face to face confrontation. The Internet basically makes a wall for people to hide behind.

Like bullies everywhere, they try to make themselves feel better by putting other people down.

I don't think that applies to people to trash trolls, or to those who comment on poor spelling, grammar, etc. But some are just mean, and it's because they don't have a real life!

I believe what you said is probably the main reason but another thing could be that they could be mad at someone else and just take out their frustrations on you or the first person they interact with.then another reason could be :some people just like to try to get under your skin, they enjoy making fun of,trying to frustrate and being mean to people, which points back to what you said about it being easy to be an b***th**e on the computer .they don't know you and therefore don't care about you or your feelings.

To me it is obvious. Not everyone but more than 50% of the people on yahoo answers have A personality less than agreeable to their fellows otherwise they would be doing something else. I am one of the worst.

I think you're mostly correct. I submit that some people have an emotional need to crap on other people to feel better about themselves.
