good wines to use for steak marinade?

I've never used wine to marinade before. What would you recommend?

    Any American red wine will do as it is only fit for cooking not drinking.

    I would get a bottle of Burgundy thats about 10-12 bucks. Burgundy is a good red wine for pretty much any cooking application you will have. Anything over 12 bucks that is too expensive for cooking. Just dont use the "cooking wine" you find in supermarkets, that stuff should be banned.

    Merlot black roast is the standard for all marinades.
