NHL Shootouts Yes or No ?

I think the shoot should be eliminated, There is too much at stake for a win and a extra point too be decided on just a few players on a team sport.

Get rid of the shoot out. Nothing wrong with playing for the extra point in a 10 min 4 on 4 overtime and just one point for a tie.

I think the NHL should adopt a new system to make the shootout useless, but keep it around as a last resort.

Basically, a win in regulation or OT is 2 points. A regulation loss is no points, an OT loss is one point. Then if the game moves into the shootout, the winner gets 1 point and the loser none. This means teams would have as much incentive to lose in OT as to win in shootout. I think this could spark some interesting overtimes, but still keep ties out of the game. It meets every criteria necessary to please almost everyone (no ties for the fans, maintains the shootout for those who enjoy it, makes the shootout worth less for those who don't like it, and it would be incredibly easy to transition to this system)

I would want the shootout to stay. I think it's really fun to watch, especially when there's some good tricks. Plus if they didn't have shootouts, they would have to play on and on until there is a goal and that's boring. A shootout decides the winning team.

No they should not be eliminated. How else would they decide victors in long games? if a winner wasnt decided in 5 minutes of overtime a shootout is very rational, let alone one of the most exciting and nail-biting parts of hockey. its also a way for players as well as goalies to individually prove themselves to the fans, coaches, and players. all in all i love shootouts and i think they should stay.

    I have a better idea.

Make a 2 goal advantage to win a shootout or Overtime.

People need to accept the shootout is here to stay.

It intrests people, which is what really matters.

The league knows that hardcore fans will still watch with the shootout, and non hardcore fans will at least be interested in the idea.

Getting viewers is what really matters, and that's why I say the shootout should stay.

The only reason they have shootouts so that they can end the game and have a winner.

Just because Datsyuk is on my Red Wings team, I'd like the shooutout to stay aha.

As a longtime fan i don't like it, but I know it is necessary to sell the game. It's not going anywhere.
