if i hire an independent contractor to do sales , what are my responsibilities tax wisE?

do i need to deduct the following:

medicare

social security

unemployment

workers compensation

disability

income tax withholding

please advise

    If the person you hire is TRULY an independent contractor, you are not responsible for any of that.

    Gee I hope this is a homework question.

    Go to irs.gov and type [employee contractor ] into the search box and click go.

    Also look at W-9 vs W-4.

    There is much more to it than that.

    You CAN NOT just declare someone to be an independent contractor on your own

    The arrangement must fit the legal definition.
