Do police cameras stay on while the car is turned off?

My friend and I were egging at night about 12:30. He reached out the window and hit a blue truck. Not knowing that it was a sherriffs truck. The sheriffs car was parked right behind the blue truck. I's there anyway we will get caught?

That depends on the type of camera. The first system could be left on anytime the officer wanted it on, regardless if the car was running or occupied.

Our new cameras are digital. They have up to a 5 minute memory. When I turn it on, it can go back and retrieve the last 5 minutes.

If the sheriff's deputy uses Yahoo! Answers, he won't need a camera. He can see this question and trace your IP address.

(I have no idea how Banana Smoothie can tell you what the penalty is, as you didn't say where this happened. Penalties vary by state law.)

The minimum penalty for doing that is a minimum of 5 days in jail but no more than 10 and/or a fine of at least $500 but not exceeding $2000. The egg yolk itself ruins paint jobs and is still punishable even if the yolk did not touch the paint (if it splattered on the window).

The cameras are a separate piece of equipment from the car itself. So most likely no, the camera was not turned off.

If you have any more questions, I'll edit my answer and reply to the best of my ability.

No, not off duty, Egging is really hard to get off of a car after it dries and it ruins the paint, your real lucky to have not been seen around there looking at it or you'd be a suspect and possibly arrested for vandalism. Watch out your front window in the night time to make sure that no one knows what you've been doing. Honey, if I catch you EGGING MY CAR, I am going to rip your hair OUT OF YOUR HEAD!!! Get it, grow up, does your mother go out and egg cars? Ja,ja,ja. I doubt it. Good luck with your answer

If you were not morons and scouted the area before you egged, you wouldn't be having any difficulty.

I hope so. You need to get a job instead of wasting your parents' eggs.

The camera is off when the car is off. Your lucky that no alarm system of any sort was on at the time.
