    In response to M92:

The primary Scriptural passage Catholics point to for evidence of Purgatory is 1 Corinthians 3:15, which says, “If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.” The passage (1 Corinthians 3:12-15) is using an illustration of things going through fire as a description of believers’ works being judged. If our works are of good quality “gold, sliver, costly stones,” they will pass through the fire unharmed, and we will be rewarded for them. If our works are of poor quality “wood, hay, and straw,” they will be consumed by the fire, and there will be no reward. The passage does not say that believers pass through the fire, but rather that a believer’s works pass through the fire. 1 Corinthians 3:15 refers to the believer “escaping through the flames,” not “being cleansed by the flames.”

The bible does not mention purgatory as a place. The word purgatory is not in the bible but you might wish to read these verses for yourself, which refer to the fact that we will be purified by fire.

    1 Peter 1:7 and Revelation 3:18-21.

Read them and decide what you think it means.

There is another verse I wanted to show you also which I cannot find - maybe someone else can. It refers to being tried by fire and stating that wood and hay will burn and silver and gold won't burn. Many believe that the verse is referring to those who will be saved and those who will not.

There are several. Purgatory is the final purification before entering heaven because "nothing unclean can enter heaven" (Rev. 21:27) and we need "the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. (Heb. 12:14 - see also 12:1,5-11,15,23, Ephesians 5:5, 1 Thessalonians 4:3 1 John 3:2-3). The article "Biblical Evidence for Purgatory: 25 Bible Passages" details more passages: http://socrates58.blogspot.com/2008/02/biblical-ev...

Also from the article "Purgatory" (http://www.catholic.com/tracts/purgatory):

"Christ refers to the sinner who "will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come" (Matt. 12:32), suggesting that one can be freed after death of the consequences of one’s sins. Similarly, Paul tells us that, when we are judged, each man’s work will be tried. And what happens if a righteous man’s work fails the test? "He will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire" (1 Cor 3:15). Now this loss, this penalty, can’t refer to consignment to hell, since no one is saved there; and heaven can’t be meant, since there is no suffering ("fire") there. The Catholic doctrine of purgatory alone explains this passage. "

You have not because it is un-biblical and invented by Rome as was the Eternal pit fire of Hell.Hell means Grave in Greek Translation and the New Testament was translated from Greek. They did not know what word to use so they used Grave in their own Language. The Lake of fire is the True definition, and will burn up Sin forever in it. The Results of fire is the Second Death eternally Rev. 21:8..Mal. 4:1-3 Ash Dead!!! No life or existence any ware. no more Hades or death Rev. 20:14, all will be burned up forever who hold on to their own sins..with the False Prophet, the Beast and The Dragon. The result of fire is Eternal..not the fire itself. We do not worship a tyrant like Satan is but a merciful God who will judge the unsaved for what they have done and not done and THAT IS IT. Ash under the feet of the believers. Immortality Romans 2:7, 1 Corinthians 15:53 1 Ti. 6:16 only goes to the Saved not the unsaved.

Jainism is analogous to the Christian concept of Purgatory. There is no eternal damnation; hell is a place to expiate evil karma with the end that the purified soul can again advance to a higher plane of existence.

+ Purgatory + the assumption of purgation is hinted at interior the Bible. indexed right here are a pair of places: "yet whilst somebody's artwork is burned up, that one will go through loss; the guy would be saved, yet purely as by hearth." a million Cor 3:15 "so as that the genuineness of your faith, extra priceless than gold it quite is perishable even nevertheless examined via hearth, could tutor to be for compliment, glory, and honor on the revelation of Jesus Christ." a million puppy a million:7 Are you suited now? maximum folk could say no. Will you be suited in heaven? maximum folk have confidence sure. Purgatory (or purgation) is the skill of God's love changing our imperfect selves on earth into suited beings in heaven. reckoning on the quantity of exchange necessary via diverse human beings, it quite is commonly an effortless or quite extra durable technique. each and every person in purgatory is on his or her thank you to heaven. i do no longer think of mom Teresa of Calcutta had an quite no longer effortless time of it. + substances of Doctrine + The Catholic Church does not purely use Holy Scripture for the muse of doctrine. The early Catholic church existed before and by the time that the hot testomony became into written (via Catholics). Catholics even have confidence that the Holy Spirit became into guiding the early church (and is guiding the church immediately) to make the suitable options approximately issues like - The Holy Trinity (it quite is likewise purely hinted at interior the Bible) - Going to church on Sunday rather of Saturday (it quite is unquestionably today against between the ten commandments) - Which books to comprise interior the hot testomony? - How do our imperfect selves on earth get to be suited in heaven? This 2d source of doctrine is termed Apostolic custom. + With love in Christ.

"For other foundation no man can lay, but that which is laid; which is Christ Jesus. Now if any man build upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay stubble: Every man's work shall be manifest; for the day of the Lord shall declare it, because it shall be revealed in fire; and the fire shall try every man's work, of what sort it is. If any man's work abide, which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work burn, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire.” 1 Corinthians 3:11-15:

While this passage presents considerable difficulty, it is regarded by many of the Fathers and theologians as evidence for the existence of an intermediate state in which the dross of lighter transgressions will be burnt away, and the soul thus purified will be saved.

There are quite a few and a bit to explain, so I recommend this website:

It is based both on the Doctrines of Faith of both the Council of Florence and the Council of Trent. These doctrines were based on Scriptural references of a "cleansing" fire found in 1Cor 3:15 and 1Pet 1:7 and also on the prayer for the dead mentioned in Maccabees: "Therefore (Judas Maccabeus) made atonement for the dead, that they might be delivered from their sin." (2 Macc 12:46)

purgatory is a man-made belief which does not exist in the bible. i don't know what your other question was, but i know that there is no such scripture in existance to support the idea of purgatory. in fact, the bible says that it is given once for man to die and then the judgement. we do not get a second chance after death, and there is no way for anyone to climb out of hell.
