Do you think society in general has become very selfish?

It seems to me that people have more of a self-centered attitude compared to decades before. Neighbors, friends, and even strangers generally used to care more for others. This is just an opinion and maybe my opinion is extreme, but I'm curious about what you think. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

We live in a world where everything is "me, Me, ME!" everything from the time we are born till the time we die is focused on us, Facebook, twitter, T.V. advertisement, you name it, are all focused on making you feel like you are the center of attention. this leads to people being very selfish and self centered, and in fact explains a lot of why America is going down the drain. (i only speak from experience, an i mean no harm nor disrespect to anyone who has a different view) But yea most people in common day are pretty selfish, and when you do try to do something good, it is highly discouraged.

An example, the other day i was at Wal-Mart. Old guy tripped and some kids that were around my age (and were with their parents for Christ sake) just stopped and laughed, while the door greeter and I helped the old man up. if it had been about 30-40 years ago, those kids would have stopped to help, and if they had stood and laughed their parents would have beat them to with in an inch of their life. But yea, that's the world we live in now, kinda sad no? certainly no place i want my kids growing up in, hope this helped, sorry for the rant, good luck to ya.

Roughly a billion dollars a day a spend in the US on marketing and advertizing and the macro message is build upon the glorification of being selfish.

So yes I think there is a trend here, and some of the smartest, best paid people are helping to make this happen. Very sad....
