Moved from Kansas to Hawaii. It was very hard to adjust because there, white people are the minority...and the locals take full advantage of it. It's even worse as a military brat because the locals know that you will be leaving again soon. At least that's the way it was in the 70's.
The bread thing is all in the water. That's why New York City has the best bagels anywhere.

I've lived in the same city and state all my life, so I've never had to adjust to any difference. As for the bread tasting different, most regions have their own particular cuisine, and most of it is good. I have traveled a lot, so I can acknowledge the difference. I guess a person gets accustomed to home, so when you travel or move to another locale, you get to taste different things from that region.

When I was two, I moved across town. It wasn't hard to adjust, as I don't even remember the old house haha.. and no new culture.
Also, that's an interesting question! I'm not sure, different methods of baking it?
