Just a little added info after Tommy's reply. She's not having a period. A period is the opposite to what she's having. She's in heat. Which means that she is MOST fertile at this time. Do NOT let her outside by herself, not even for five minutes. An un-neutered male dog can smell a female in heat for miles and will jump over high fences to get to her. You don't want that. Keep her indoors at all times except to go to the bathroom, obviously.

There's nothing to be worried about...it's just a natural thing. It means that if she mates with a dog now...she could get pregnant. It will last for 3 FULL weeks, so keep a STRICT eye on her and be very careful when opening the front door, or any door that can lead to her escaping...she could attempt to escape too in order to find a mate and at her age she is FAR too young to be pregnant or have puppies. She's too small, the puppies could get stuck, and/or she could die.

    Hi.

She's in heat, which will be for about 21 days.

She will have a bloody discharge on the first 1/3 of the period. The middle portion, around day 9-15, she will have a less bloody, straw colored discharge. This is the dangerous period because this is the time she can get pregnant if a male dog mates with her. The last 1/3 of the heat will be the trailing off of the discharge until there is none anymore.

She may be more loving and may lose her appetite.

Yes it's normal. Keep her away from ALL male dogs, unless you for a fact know they are neutered. Do not let her outside unsupervised...male dogs will go to any length, even jumping a fence to get to a female in heat. Your female will also have a natural instinct to want to mate and will look for a male if they come to her so again, don't let her out of your sight. For her heat you can get her a doggy diaper as that will help with the mess she could leave...

Yes- she is in season. She should be allowed outside on lead only (with a person at the other end) and kept away from all intact males for the next three weeks. Make an appointment to have her spayed in 5 weeks time.

even if that's from her vaginal area she's in warmth. the warmth cycle in many circumstances very last about 21 days. in case you do not pick domestic dogs shop her faraway from all intact adult males. if you're actually unlikely to reproduce than after her warmth cycle is over call the vet and agenda an appointment to have her spayed. in case you do not spay her you should administration the blood and conserving male dogs off her about each and every 6 months.

Yes. Female dogs who are not "fixed" will have menstrual bleeding. If the blood is bright red or heavy you should take her to the vet immediately.
