Will an airplane let me get on with an expired drivers license?

My drivers license expired a few months ago. My home state is 4 states away and I already bought a ticket to go there. I'm trying to get my drivers license renewed but its harder than I thought. The state I live in now are asking me for my original birth certificate and social security card. I have the birth certificate but not the card. When I try to board the plane in Jacksonville on Saturday, will they turn me down because my license is outdated?

While what Ian said is essentially correct, whether you are allowed into the secured area with no valid ID is AT THE DISCRETION of the TSA.......

    EDIT

Gdude - in the US, pax under the age of 18 do not require I.D. to fly domestically

It needs to be a VALID government issued photo ID. So, they will probably not allow you. Check with the DMV and TSA websites to find out other forms of ID you can use.

EDIT- @Ian Every single person on the plane needs an ID. Even a baby would need some form of photo ID. They don't just let people go with some strict questioning, its either valid photo ID or no fly.

There's a lot of rubbish doing the rounds regarding ID for domestic flights. In reality you can fly with no ID at all, but you can expect a very thorough grilling from TSA. Carry whatever ID you have. An expired licence is better than nothing, even a school library card helps if it has your photo on it.

It's not the airline you need to be concerned about. It is TSA. That birth certificate and SS card is not going to cut it.

People have to realize the airlines have nothing to do with Security.
