First baby-stuff laundry...mix it in or keep it separate?

Is it really necessary to separate baby clothes/blankets from ours/use different detergent? This seems like a waist to me...am I wrong?

Update:

Sorry, waste - I have some spelling issues...

At least I thought better of it & checked myself :)

Update 2:

@Sam - yes, we are only washing one NB outfit, a sack sleeper that can't be too small, one sheet and one or two blankets today so we know we have her covered if I pop tomorrow. The tags have been left on everything else - well at least the stuff that came with tags - some people are odd and took them off for us :(

Update 3:

We actually will probably end up separating things when she's here 'cause we'll be doing more and we'll have a full load worth...but for what I'm doing today it does not seem like it's worth 2 individual loads (one regular one delicate).

We use Tide and Purell, often what is on sale, but usually fragrance/dye free.

What is this "non-bio"? Is that a British thing?

Nope you're not wrong. My baby has had her stuff washed with ours with whatever detergent I buy on sale since day 1. The only time it's necessary is if you find your baby breaking out in rashes because the skin is sensitive to the laundry detergent but this is rare. It's also pointless to wash baby's clothes when they're new. First of all what if your baby never wears it, and you took off the tags and washed it then it's just a used unused outfit. But if you leave the tags on until the baby wears it the first time you can give it to someone as a gift or you can save it nice and new for another baby. And personally I like to put my daughter in brand new things that aren't all numbed up and shrunken from the wash.

EVERY BABY IS DIFFERENT but I started out using dye and fragrance free detergent and washing my newborns clothes alone but at 1 monthe I began mixing her laundry in with mine and I have recently began useing regular detergent on her clothes as well. She is now 2 months and I wash her clothes the same as I would my own. I really think that I could have been doing this all along and it would have been ok.

There is no need to separate baby clothes from other laundry. We use the free and clear detergents already because of my skin and I can't be bothered to spend $15 on baby detergent. We just usually add a second rinse to baby clothes or loads that have some baby stuff in it.

Some babies have sensitive skin and their stuff can't be washed in anything with a strong fragrance. Most babies it doesn't matter what their stuff is washed in. I've washed my daughters stuff in regular detergent, free and clear scent free detergent, and the baby stuff as well as mixed some in with our clothes - she doesn't have sensitive skin so none of it bothers her. Right now I'm using Dreft because my Mom keeps buying it for me, even though I've told her it's not necessary and to stop buying it. If she didn't keep buying it for me I'd just be washing her stuff in our regular scented detergent. I do wash her stuff separately then ours most of the time just because it's easier to sort through before and after wash.

Just use something like all free and clear something that doesn't have fragrance or dye. Buying the expensive dreft is useless. The only thing that irritates the babies skin is the fragrance and dye that is added into most detergents. And it's perfectly ok to wash with your clothes.

I always used non-bio when my baby was little, is to prevent their delicate skin to be irritated, maybe dont wash stuff then when baby here try putting a blanket washed with normal stuff near then on baby for a while if your really that bothered about using different powder. The non-bio wont do you any harm if your clothes are washed in it.

No it's not necessary but I do it just to keep her things together since they're smaller and I don't want to risk losing a tiny sock in my husbands clothing. haha. Also don't bother buying expensive laundry detergent like Dreft. I use All free and Clear with everyone's laundry.

So no, you're not wrong. I agree

I would baby clothes are smaller id put them in the sink let them soak in dreft ivory or a dye free detergent it keeps there little things nice and bright however if you're in a rush can't afford the expense wash baby clothes with towels sheets or your delicate things

I always wash the baby's clothes separately because I use soap for infant clothes. If you have a small load go ahead and wash it with the regular clothes but use the infant soap. Good luck and congrats.

When they are tiny you definitely want to use separate detergent that has no scent and no dye. I use all free and clear to wash all baby stuff in until they're older.
