is it wise to downgrade my windows 7 to windows xp ? 7 will not let me install an old program correctly?

like i have an old program that only works on windows xp and windows xp pro but i have a laptop that has windows 7 on it. the windows 7 will not even let me install the program drivers correctly. is this the best option ? completely remove the 7 and put the xp ? and please dont mention the compatibility mode because like i said, i cant even install the program correctly on windows 7

Update:

the program is what i use to make my living. its very important to me. it is a cardiosoft program. there is an upgrade to the program but it cost $1000. cant afford it

    It will never work

    .

The only safe way is to get a new hard drive and put it in the computer and unplug the power from the one that has Win 7 installed

    .

And boot up putting in the windows XP cd and

    .

Let it find the things it needs to make the computer work

    .

    If it don't work

    .

Shut down unplug the XP drive and plug the Win 7 back in and you are not out anything

A lot of the current day motherboards will not run on XP. XP is an 11yr old operating system and has been discontinued by Microsoft. As a result, computer manufacturers are not making drivers for XP on their new motherboards because it's not cost effective to continue R&D for a legacy system when the vast majority of the world has modernized to the new Operating System.

If you want to downgrade, you need to make absolutely sure your motherboard and RAM will run with XP operating system first.

If you find out that it won't, then what happened to your old computer? I'm assuming you used to have one or you wouldn't have this old program you speak of. Put your program back on that then.

You could always call a computer manufacturer like DELL for instance and speak to a salesman and find out if they still make a PC or laptop that will run in the legacy environment. If they do then you have two options:

    1) pay 1,000 just to buy a new PC to run this old program

    2) pay 1,000 to upgrade this old program to run on your current Win 7 laptop

You are pretty much in checkmate in that situation and don't have a good solution.

It'll pretty much come down to:

    1) will your new laptop run on XP (call your laptop's manufacturer tech spt and ask). If so, by all means install XP on it. Not many vendors still sell XP but you can probably buy it at Amazon or maybe ebay

    2) if your new laptop will not run XP, you will have to either go back to your old computer or find a computer vendor that does still sell legacy motherboards that will run on XP

Not a good option. First be absolutely sure your machine has XP drivers available. Many later machines do not as XP is no longer supported for new machines. Second the performance of the machine will fall badly. You would lose all your existing files and programs as you will need to remove the existing partitions and create new. It may also not be able to use all the capacity of the machine, might not see all the RAM. And a lot of newer drives are not recognised by XP, you would need to install drivers for them (again if there are any)

no dont there is a way to fix this problem....install the program or on the installer right click go to properties then compatibility and check run as box and select windows xp. it should run fine. I KNOW ABOUT THE COMPATIBILITY MODE JUST DO THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE INSTALLER OF THE PROGRAM

i would say either try to find a version for windows 7, find a program like it for windows 7, or just go without it. windows 7 is a definite upgrade from windows xp, and i wouldnt change my computing experience for just one program

hmmmmm I wouldn't sacrifice 7 with XP just because of 1 program.

Can't you find any alternative ones ? What program is that ?
