Flags at half-staff for Whitney Houston?
The govenor of New Jersey authorized the lowering of flags to half-staff in honor of the great American role model - Whitney Houston. I have a problem with this. She's an entertainer and not an american hero. I believe there's only two entertainers I know that deserve the flag at half-staff.
#1. Audie Murphy - If you have to ask why, then you're not a real American.
#2. Bob Hope - He dedicated his entire life to supporting the troops, and is the only person in U.S. history to be granted honorary status as a military veteran. Done so by the U.S. congress.
BTW, gary sinise is walking down the path of Bob Hope. Maybe him ...one day
Who else has a problem with this?
Bro: you must not be a real american or have been living under a rock. Audie murphy was the highest decorated american soldier in WWII. Know who you're talking about before you say "**** Audie Murphy." You dumb-***.

When I saw that on the news, it almost made my blood boil. And I thought that our governor was an idiot. I live in Indiana and no one authorized that for Michael Jackson, who was born in Indiana. And if it had been authorized, I probably would have flown my flag upside down--a signal of distress. As far as I know, no one did it for Elvis. At least he was a veteran.
A role model? Hell no, not Whitney Houston! Her family isn't even acknowledging her fans with any type of public memorial. She was an admitted addict. "Recovering" or not, an addict is still an addict. And she didn't live long enough to make her big comeback. But right now, Dolly Parton is making a fortune in royalties from just 1 song.
Maybe New Jersey should adopt a special entertainer flag. After all, in the coming years, there will be more deserving entertainers such as Bruce Springstein, Frankie Valli, and Jon Bon Jovi.
Source(s): By the way, I know who Audie Murphy was. My mom always called him her "boyfriend". Well, Audie Murphy and Eddy Arnold. - Anonymous9 years ago
Why is no one a true American to you? YOU in fact must not be a real American due to your lack of grammar and punctuation. It's slightly disturbing how your writing skills reflect the levels of a 3rd world child.
Another thing I'd like to say is that not everyone knows who Audie Murphy is. That's awesome for him that he served us in WW2. He then went on into a life of fame and such. Cool. You would not know who he was if not for the acting career after the war.
Bob Hope- This is a joke. How is this fool more of a hero to you than anyone currently serving in the US military? Cool he cracked a few crap jokes for the soldiers. Nothing at all in the long run. You fail at your whole question and everything you said. You sir, suck.
Source(s): Question annoyed me due to arrogance and lack of intelligence. Fail btw. - 9 years ago
I don't have a problem with it. Whitney Houston was one of the greatest voices in the history of music. She defined the 80's and 90's and paved with way for so many aspiring singers. I don't think the governor would give such an honor to "just anybody" no, but Whitney, yes. And hello she was born in New Jersey. They are proud to have such a talent born into their state. She will never be just another singer, she was it. I'm from Texas and if I had my way I'd love to see us do the same thing for her. I love you Whitney.
