  • Why were music videos in the 80's such the rage?

I can remember being a kid in the early 80's and MTV was a really big deal. We would spend all day watching videos and commenting on them. When thriller cam out, it was absolutely epic. Do teenagers even care about music videos today? It doesn't seem to be an interest anymore.

  • why do sports fans feel so compelled to wear the paraphernalia of their favorite team(s)?

What do they get from it? For example: Jerry Jones is one of the most high-profile owners in the NFL. Buying Cowboy's merchandise like, Shirts, sweaters, hats, shoes, and etc. The money for these things goes right to his pockets and essentially, you the fans, are paying him to advertise for him. Why would anyone do that!?! If he wanted to get to know me and my family and spend time with us, I'd take an interest in his business and if he asked to wear some of his stuff, sure, I'll help out a friend. But paying him to do it? Think of it this way: Job Bob owns a Croquet team. He goes around to people in audience wanting to know if they'd like to wear some of the T-shirts he had printed for his team and you are in that crowd. You don't know him and he doesn't know you but hey, he's offering, so sure. But then you find out he wants you to pay for shirts? How willing would you be and how is that any different than a major sports team?

  • Increasing compression on 350 chevy?

    (this is a repost)

THIS IS NOT A HIGH-PERFORMANCE QUESTION BUT AN EFFICIENCY QUESTION.

I inherited my grandfather's 1972 C-10 truck which he bought new in april '72. It has an original 350/350 combination with, what i think, are 3.08 gears. The truck is almost in mint condition. The only thing I don't like about it is its gas mileage. It might get 9, at best 10 miles/G. My dad tells me it has always been that way. It was worse when it was new until my dad installed a holley economaster to replace the quadrajet in 1981. That increased fuel mileage by 2 miles. I would really like to drive the truck more if I could get better economy. I did some research. As we all know, GM took the compression out of their engines to meet the EPA's requirement for all cars to run on the new unleaded fuel beginning in 1973. This truck came factory with 8.6:1 compression. It is fairly gutless with the throttle floored.

This is my question: Does lowering compression also decrease efficiency? I'm thinking it does. Regardless of compression ratios of two different 350s, volumetricaly, it would be almost the same in terms of how much air and fuel enters the cylinders at a given rpm range. Making better use of that fuel charge seems to me the way to go. I'm thinking of increasing the compression ratio by going to a flat-top piston, maybe even a small dome because it has 72cc chambers. I realize I have to use higher octane, but bear in mind, I'm already using mid-grade. I'm also pondering a slight upgrade in cam profile to go along with the increase in compression but I'll maintain the holley economaster as a fuel system. It as 390cfm. Also, I'm not too concerned with ruining its originality as the engine was opened once before many years ago. It's stock specs however it would continue to look stock on the outside. What are your thoughts? Does this seem a rational approach?

BTW: If you want to see the truck I have two videos of it on You tube. Use search word, "C-10 Highlander." It's two-tone green and white.

  • What is cranberry sauce for?

This may be stupid question but my mom always used to put it on the table at Thanksgiving, but i never knew what it was for. I never liked the taste so I never care to learn what it was intended for.

  • How can I learn to do my daughters' hair?

I have two young daughters who recently lost their mother. In all the difficulties/adjustments we are having to make, it seems to be the small things that are most frustrating. Their mother always did their hair in the mornings when they go off to school. Now for several months, I've had to take-over that task, and now it's permanent. I'm pretty good with the pony tail but that's about it. They are starting to expect something better and are asking me to do something else. How do I learn to do girl hair?

  • What would happen if Obama really was born outside of the U.S.?

I really don't buy into all that "birther" crap. Honestly, they're grasping at straws. However, if a bombshell was dropped, and there was %100 conclusive evidence to support it, what would happen? Would he be impeached on the grounds of not being in compliance with the constitution? Would Biden become President in his stead? What of all the laws that were signed by him? Are they null and void? Just curious.

  • When did we quit calling Independence Day just that?

When did it start being referred to as only, "The Fourth of July" or simply, "The Fourth?" I made a resolution a few years back to only refer to the holiday by its proper name. You'd be surprised how many people have no idea what I was talking about. Especially youth. Just another cheapening of our society. A calendar day vs. an actual name. Soon Christmas will be just, "December 25th"

  • In 50 years, what are 5 common, everyday, things you'll still be using....?

.....in their original style and function. For example. I think the toilet will still be used with flushing water and the style will still be similar. Also, playing cards. "one-eyed jacks are wild" What else?

  • What's the big deal with D-day Normandy?

I'm two generations removed from that conflict but what is the historical fanaticism and obsession with operation overlord? More books, documentaries, and movies have been done about that operation that any other part of the war. On June 4, 1944, the allies finally captured Rome after almost a year of brutal fighting in Italy. That was preceded by Sicily, and North Africa. I can't understand the focus of that one objective when so much other stuff was goign on in the war.

  • Flags at half-staff for Whitney Houston?

The govenor of New Jersey authorized the lowering of flags to half-staff in honor of the great American role model - Whitney Houston. I have a problem with this. She's an entertainer and not an american hero. I believe there's only two entertainers I know that deserve the flag at half-staff.

#1. Audie Murphy - If you have to ask why, then you're not a real American.

#2. Bob Hope - He dedicated his entire life to supporting the troops, and is the only person in U.S. history to be granted honorary status as a military veteran. Done so by the U.S. congress.

BTW, gary sinise is walking down the path of Bob Hope. Maybe him ...one day

Who else has a problem with this?

  • for gun rights advocates only?

I am extremely pro-gun. the 2nd amendement clearly states that all citizens can keep and bear arms. With that said: There has been a lot of federal restrictions over gun ownership since the ratification of the Constitution. One of these restirctions is from the Brady Bill which is for felons. Felons can't buy, own, use, or posses a firearm. Of all the ridiculous gun laws out there, is this a good one? Why?

  • If hillary clinton was elected president instead of Obama, would things be different today?

How? This is not a question of Democrats vs. Republicans. This is about presidential effectiveness.
