for gun rights advocates only?

I am extremely pro-gun. the 2nd amendement clearly states that all citizens can keep and bear arms. With that said: There has been a lot of federal restrictions over gun ownership since the ratification of the Constitution. One of these restirctions is from the Brady Bill which is for felons. Felons can't buy, own, use, or posses a firearm. Of all the ridiculous gun laws out there, is this a good one? Why?

I'd yes & no. If should depend on charges. My dad is a fellon for drugs, by all means one of the nicest ppl anyone could ever meet. I've seen em stop in the rain & help fix vehicles & rescue a person from a bad wreck when no one else is round. But a murderer should not be allowed axcess, nor a sex offender, etc.... Phsyc eval should be given to drug fellons & any other crimanal history, chosen carefully in other words. On this note our arms should not be limited in power or capabilities. "A free people ought not only be armed & disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms & ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might abuse them, which would include their own government." George Washington

I'm another yes and noer here

There is evidence in the writings of the framers that they considered citizens to be over 18 free non felon males.

the problems begin when we consider that today things that are felonies would not have been back then.

The list of felonies keeps getting longer and longer and most are nothing more than attempts to curtail out natural freedoms in the first place.

I am also a believer in "do the crime, do the time, and get a do over"

Once ALL time is served including probation you should get to go back to living a normal life. With each crime committed warranting a longer and harsher sentence..

Any crime that does not violate the natural rights of another should not be a felony

Yes and no. Problem is a lot of things you can get a felony from that isn't apart of violence. So if someone with a felony like that would not be able to get a firearm of any type unless its a muzzle loader. Only way they would have a chance is if they are pardoned by the Governor of their state or the President pardons them. But i honestly would not want a crazed person on the street with a firearm on their person then go shooting up another place.

I personally hate some laws where you cannot defend your own home with a firearm and when the person bashes in you can't kill them. That's the one of many major flaws in the United States. The purpose of owning a gun isn't just for hunting for food, its also to protect yourself, your family and everything that you own. I honestly don't think Congressmen and anti-gun people know this.

Brady was shot along with Ronald Reagan with a .22lr revolver.

Personally i would rather go to prison for killing someone who is trying to hurt my family than watch the same person hurt my family in anyway. I would have a clear mind knowing that i saved myself and family from a deranged. It is your God given right to defend yourself and your family by any means necessary to eliminate the threat.

I can see why they have laws out the wazzu for automatic and selective fire firearms but with some of this other stuff which is written very vague...just isn't right.

If you are convicted of a felony or a crime you loose your right to bear or own a gun. It's a very simple law. So do drugs or commit another crime and you are no longer able to own a gun. No reason to cry after your conviction, you should have thought about it before you committed a crime/felony. Having said that, if you want to defend your 2nd Amendment rights I strongly advice all to join the NRA. They have done so much good work and will go on doing it. We have to stand strong to keep our 2nd Amendment rights in future for us, our kids, our grandkids etc. Don't let this current Administration blind you, they are working under the radar to take your rights away with new laws after the coming presidential elections.

No all Gun Laws are meaningless, and worthless because Criminals, Felons, Tyrants, and a Tyrannical Federal, State, County, and Local Governments do not obey Gun Laws in any manner, shape, or form.* " Guns are what Freedom is derived from and held onto with... not the Ballot Box."... " Just try living Free in America without your Guns and Your Ammo; I Dare You."...The Federal Government was never Authorized, or Empowered to create , or pass any Gun Laws, or propose any Gun Legislation whatsoever in the first place pertaining to Gun Laws, or Guns according to, and under our U. S. Constitution.* " Keep Freedom Alive; Resist Tyranny."...The 2nd Amendment was all we as Law abiding American Citizens were ever required to Honor, Respect, Practice and live up to.* " The U. S. Constitution is not an instrument to restrain the American People; it is an instrument to restrain their Government."...

Let's see, you have a bad guy (Felon) and he wants to buy a gun. Well hmm this takes quite some thought, no wait it doesn't. Bad guy + gun = bad. Short sweet and to the point. In my opinion you break the law and you should no longer have certain constitutional rights. I will admit that perhaps if the bad guy commited a certain crime then it would be okay for them to get a gun but in general bad guys and guns go together like fire and gasoline. They make a big mess if they are put together in the wrong place.

There are two good restrictions, the one preventing felons from buying guns and background checks, the rest are complete bs.

For a Felon it should depend on the crime. There are to many gun laws and other parts of the system that are vauge and in need of adjustment. I know of a guy on SSI for being legaly blind, yet he has a license to carry a concealed firearm... I hope he's never there to "protect" me in a 'badguy' situation.

Get your facts straight. Felons first lost their gun ownership rights in the Gun Control Act of 1968.

It is a great law, even for drug felons. How many people die each year due to drug dealers and drug users? Felons have demonstrated an in-ability to be law abiding citizens. Rights can be restored in most states for various reasons. Felons may loose other rights as well, they may not be able to vote in many states, and it will be more difficult for them to find jobs.

this is basically the only anti-gun law that I do agree with, if you do a crime bad enough to deserve a felony charge, you deserve to lose all your rights. it's fact that the majority of felons recommit their crimes and it's often violent crimes like robbery or murder. so when you think of it, do you really want someone like this with a gun? personally, no. but if they go through the expungement process and get their rights back, I believe they have become responsible enough to possess firearms again.
