GS: What did your parents teach you about crying and emotions?

I was just curious about what your parents taught you in regards to crying and showing emotion.

Were you taught that 'big girls don't cry?' (for the women) or that 'men don't cry?' (for the men) or did your parents took a different approach?

I would appreciate it if you include in your answer your age (to see if there is a generational difference), sex, and whether you think your parents chose the right method. And for those that are parents, what do you teach your children about crying? Does it matter if they're a boy or a girl?

My parents taught me that crying was good and ok. Well mostly my mother. My dad never really said anything. But I once had to go through a traumatic emergency and I went home and totally broke down. My mom said it was ok and she did it all the time when she had to do things like that.

  • I've always been taught to show my emotions when present, but that was when I was little. Now, I'm somewhat devoid of them, but I still have them in the least.
