Will getting my dog spayed change her personality or behavior?

I've heard lots of stories of people getting their dogs fixed and then after that they just aren't the same. I love her personality and I really don't want that to change. She is a little hyper sometimes, will that change too? Of course I want to get her fixed anyways because the health benefits outweigh the negative effects but I'm just wondering. She is exactly 1 year old if it makes a difference. Thanks!

Yes, she needs to stay calm. It is a legitimate surgery. They have to open her up in order to spay her. She will have stitches on her belly. Your vet will go over her after care with you. Make sure you ask lots of questions! Yes, it will change her behavior, but not her personality. She will mellow out a bit as well as potentially lose or reduce any aggressive tendencies. She will be able to focus on training more without all those hormones raging through her body. Her personality will remain the same. She will still be the same dog you love. Spaying will not change her. It will only help curb some bad habits she may have such as roaming or aggression. It will not FIX any problems though. If she does not have any issues, you shouldn't see much of a change in her if any change at all.

This is actually a semi-myth. My girl's personality hasn't changed an ounce since she was spayed at 8 months. And not every dog does change. Honestly, I was kind of hoping she would...she's what I like to describe as my "breathing tornado on wheels". She's very energetic, very hyper...and that hasn't altered at all since the day I brought her home or after she was spayed.

    Sorry, typos. Grr.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU6G8

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Honestly, an untrained dog can be a real pain - a risk to himself, his owner and to other people and animals. Owning an undisciplined dog may result to:

    - Destruction to your home

    - Social isolation

    - Accidents

    - Injuries

    - Legal claims against you

    - Stress to all concerned

    - The dog being unwanted

Canines that always get their own way will believe that life revolves around them and for that reason they must be important. Since dogs are looking for controlling different resources than humans, their bid for power usually goes undetected until it’s too late. Obedience and house training your dog and ensuring he’s not raised to a top position inside the home will keep your relationship with him well-balanced in your favor, as it must be for satisfaction all round.

Spaying will greatly reduce hormones related to reproduction. This means that behaviours related to wanting to mate will be reduces or eliminated. Since she will not go into heat, you will not have ot deal with that again. Spaying does tend to calm dogs down a bit, but if she is really hyper that doesn't mean she will become a couch potato, she will just be a big less hyper.

I just had my girl spayed and she is 3yrs. She was sore for a few days but each day she got a little more active. That was 10 days ago just got her stitches out today but she has been back to normal since the 4th. day. She is just as active and loving as before the spaying. Your girl will be fine.

Yea my dog she became a bit lazy, she don't like walking. And she is no longer excited and jumping and very happy and no longer flirting with males. SO she kinda like a bit dull and not really the old happy funny excited fliratious dog. But it's for her own good, she got pregnant many times I am just saving her as a rescue dog.

She will be a little more cuddly after the procedure, because she is recovering. My dog was spayed, and she used to be no cuddler at all. After that procedure, she was cuddly for the rest of the recovery process, then she was back to normal. It won't permanently change her personality.

Female dogs who are not spayed are on the "look out" for male dogs = might be more anxious, hyper, etc...but not in a good way.

Don't spay your dog? Then she can get tumors/cancers of the female parts (ovaries, etc). She'll bleed a little here and there (in your house), she'll be a magnet for male dogs when you go out.

    Spay her?

She won't have that anxiety of needing a male dog, she'll be more likely to be "calm" in the sense of not looking for males.

It doesn't make a dog lazy, it just makes them not have that anxiety of needing to look for a mate. That's it.

She'll still be full of energy, etc..if that's the type of breed she is.

It's a myth that spaying makes them lazy. Just keep up her exercise and playtime, she'll be fine.

If anything, she'll be much happier.

No it will not change her personality or behavior to be honest I liked my dog when she was recovering from the surgery since she liked to be with me more but now she is back to her crazy self running like she did before but when they are recovering they just want to be with you more and tired and sleepy but it will never change the personality.
