I was born after the second world war ended - one of the "baby boomer" generation. I remember we still had food rationing, no central heating, no wall-to-wall carpets, no annual holidays, no motor car or television or even a telephone! People these days don't even begin to comprehend the meaning of "austerity measures"!

It is true that my parents were Godly, honest, reliable and decent folks who brought us up to believe in God and the Bible. But I wouldn't go so far as to say they were the norm. They actually believed that Armageddon would turn up while they were alive, because they were part of that generation alive in 1914 when the world went mad and they spent all their spare time preaching about "the end of this wicked system of things," so convinced were they that we had entered into "the last days." Almost 100 years on but the signs Jesus predicted have not yet all happened.

It is my Christian view that warfare today is no worse than it was 100 years ago and it continues unabated. We appear to have learned nothing from history, so we are doomed to repeat it. Famines, pestilence, earthquakes and all manner of natural disasters appear to be worse now than ever, but remember that 100 years ago we did not have the benefit of the world wide web, computers and sophisticated communications systems. Lawlessness, immorality, greed and all that goes with secularism abounds - but it's hardly new.

My friend, we have been living in "the last days" since Jesus uttered his prophetic words prior to the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in the year 70 A.D. These "last days" did NOT start in 1914. And we have a long way to go yet before the prophecies of Revelation come true. For example, we await the emergence of Israel and a peace treaty that will be broken. The Antichrist is yet to make his final appearance on the world stage - I wonder if it will turn out to be Islam?

The longer God stays His hand, the more people will have an opportunity to repent and be saved. God's timing is always perfect. Meanwhile, it is comforting to know that the Word of God is being preached throught the inhabited world by Christians who have come to accept Christ Jesus as their Lord and their Saviour.

    It’s a good thing that….

-World War 2 was much severe than what we have now; the world didn’t end. Actually, the American Civil War was our greatest loss as a nation. And that was hundreds of years ago… Actually… you know what…? War is nothing new, there’s just more TV cameras nowadays to report it out of proportions.

-Famine: Since the dawn of time, humans have been moving around because food is scarce in some areas. Since the dawn of time, we’ve had famines caused by droughts, floods, and other pests with far more casualties than what we have today.

    - Pestilences? Name one.

-Increasing lawlessness, believe it or not, global crime rates are dropping. It’s just that News reporters are more active.

-Earthquake, the earth is pretty stable compared to how it was in the past.

-Critical Times: I assume we haven’t had those before? We haven’t had wars in the past? We haven’t had civil wars? We haven’t toppled governments that abuse the people? Guess what, life goes on. The French Revolution came to an end, the Great Depression came to an end, did they not?

-Inordinate love of money: COUGH COUGH YOUR FAVORITE CHURCH RESTS ON A MOUND OF GOLD.

-Disobedience to parents: Isolated event in the US. The majority of the world actually has strict family values.

-Lack of natural affection: Where are you getting this from?

-Pleasures other than God: Back in the dark ages, where there was nothing but a plague infested rat to play with, God must have been quite the stress releaser. Thank humans that we’ve grown so enlightened and entertained.

-Lack of Self-Control: Fair enough, I’ll give that one a true.

-Without love of goodness; What? Everyone loves goodness. Everyone wants goodness for themselves and those they love. Nobody likes evil.

-Taking no note of impending danger: We are taking note, it’s just that our leaders don’t care.

-Ridiculing rejecting proof: To this I’ll say: “Defense mechanisms work both way. Do not defend yourself by just saying: “If you reject me, it’s evidence that X is occurring.” That holds no grounds in logic.”

-Global Preaching: Blame religion for that? Who else preaches that BS?

But of cause, there was less lust in the world and of cause less Sin.. Lets not get away from the fact that there was bigotry , and the US was fighting two wars back in the 40,s however the family still had decency and respect, and there was much less of everything , but a lot more fun.

Churches were full in those days, and everyone spoke to each even though they were from different denominations.

Kids were clean in the early days, with no tattoos, piercing and drugs.. This is a sick society, we have today and parents are on the top of the list for being irresponsible, then the church, and finally the Government.

If people are born into this era, then they will likely see nothing strange

about it at all. But I find it all very strange, very hostile, very superficial.

Superficially, for example, people can seem friendly enough but I don't know

them, they might talk but it leads nowhere. People are always in a big hurry,

and I understand this because pressure is much higher now.

I live in a place where more and more highrises are happening, and

expensive, quite fancy highrises at that. How can people all afford that?

And so much money just to live...in the air?

Maybe things are similar to years ago and just more open now, I don't know.

Maybe it's just more in the open, but I remember it being safe for children.

I remember children could be allowed to play on the street, and where

I lived streets weren't busy at all, just side streets, and only when

the Dad's came home, was it busy. Mom's stayed at home mostly.

Now, I like the idea that women can pursue their abilities, and

maybe being at home isn't one of those. But somehow it

was more peaceful. I remember it more peaceful. I used to

see beautiful birds, now extinct in the yard. And I'd hear

beautiful bird songs, and that's all gone now. Now it's just

crows. Crows weren't even in the neighbourhood at all

many years ago, now that's all there is other than a few

brave robins once in a while. It's devoid of color, nature,

and what nature there is, is perverted like having coyotes

in the suburbs eating cats, children. Didn't have that.

A bear attacked a woman while she was working in

her front yard in a suburb. The man next door happened

to be driving his large van, saw this, drove right through

the bushes at the bear, scared it (it mauled the woman,

would have eaten her), and he saved this woman's life.

There is absolutely NOTHING new on your list. we have been in the "Last Days" since Jesus' Ascension

Jehovahs witnesses have it wrong and have always had it wrong and will continue to get it wrong

    http://jwfacts.com/watchtower/1800s.php

    1800s - Changed Date Doctrine

    1914 - Failed Doctrine

At the 1967 District Convention, Wisconsin Sheboygan District Overseer Brother Charles Sunutko presented the talk "Serving with Everlasting Life in View", making the following statement:

    "Stay Alive to Seventy Five"

"Well now, as Jehovah's Witnesses, as runners, even though some of us have become a little weary, it almost seems as though Jehovah has provided meat in due season. Because he's held up before all of us, a new goal. A new year. Something to reach out for and it just seems it has given all of us so much more energy and power in this final burst of speed to the finish line. And that's the year 1975. Well, we don't have to guess what the year 1975 means if we read the Watchtower. And don't wait 'till 1975. The door is going to be shut before then. As one brother put it, "Stay alive to Seventy-Five""

1925 - "Millions Now Living Will Never Die!"

From 1966 to 1975 the Watchtower regularly implied that Armageddon would arrive in 1975. However, ask a Jehovah's Witnesses about this date and they will invariably deny there ever being such statements or that the Watchtower assigned any importance to 1975. The following exhaustive list of quotes shows exactly what the Watchtower said.

In 1980, the Watchtower made a post-1975 admission that it had encouraged the viewpoint that Jesus earthly rulership would begin 1975.

The Watchtower implied the end would come in 1975.

"With the appearance of the book Life Everlasting-in Freedom of the Sons of God, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man's existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. ... Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility." Ah, the sign of the willfully ignorant about history git.

So, let's look at the last century; Two world wars, over a hundred million dead just from them, genocide, and not just once, societies where racism was considered reasonable, just to name three.

Never mind epidemics that killed millions, like the influenza epidemic of 1918-1920, that killed at least 50 million, which was 3% of all of humanity at the time.

Yet, with all that, NOTHING from any deity. NOTHING going on now is within a couple of orders of magnitude to the many tragedies and disasters of the past. Grow the frak up and stop with the insane masturbatory catastrophe fantasies, which are SICK.

my grandma and grandpa is in their 80's and they said all the things religion is pointing at like those you listed has always been going on. The only difference now is the media. Things are more openly expressed, no secrets anymore, people don't hide things like they used to, everyone's just a lot more open about their business than before. The only things that have changed is cultures.

What were these "peaceful good ol' days" exactly? During the American Revolution? Indian Wars? Slavery times? American Civil War?World War I? World War II? Vietnam? Cold War?

Smell the roses, kido. Every generation has its up and downs. Old people reminisce about the old days because they miss being young - not necessarily because they miss that time period.

When we had strong labor unions working men could support their families doing honest work.

We had a thriving middle class. Those good old days when the godless USSR supported our labor movement and regular people lived affluent lives...

Now its over and religion is the opiate of dying democracy...

I am a grandparent, and do not recall more peaceful times than now. Respect always needs to be earned,it is never just bestowed. And I have no idea what you mean by godliness.
