Why do so many Republican Congressmen use government subsidized health care plans?

It is optional, as they are free to buy health care through an insurance company instead of using the plan that the government provides them.

Also, most Congressmen are wealthy, so they can easily afford private health insurance.

Don't Republicans always talk about how much better private health insurance is over any type of government plan?

It's yet another example right-wing hypocrisy from selfish, greedy Republicans that fail to practice what they preach to others.

I heard a great call in to a radio show yesterday. Younger guy (for me), with a family. A Conservative carpenter who was laid off work.

He had never taken government assistance in his life, but then signed up for the SNAP program (food stamps). $600 a month. Way more than he budgeted for food when he worked. He was also bundled into a bunch of other assistance programs.

Fast forward a year and a half, and he has not taken a job, although plenty were available. The benefits were just too generous for doing nothing. And he said he'll try to stay on Food Stamps as long as possible - I mean, $600/month!!!!!

The point? Government assistance is a drug. Like on the street, even the dealers (politicians) get addicted to the cozy, exorbitant benefits that do not reflect what real working Americans in the private sector can get. We need to get on a program before everyone gets hooked.

Because they are so good at taking the argument and throwing it right back at you straw man style like the good Dr. did below. I hear them do that all the time. My favorite is how many of them are in Union Jobs - not the congressmen - people like Rush Limbaugh - because they can't get the job without Union Subsidy. It makes me sick.

Because under the health insurance mandate, private health insurance costs have been rising.

Now, why can't the average american get in on these gubmint subsidized plans?

Most congressmen aren't wealthy, their campaign money is not for their personal use.

Also, how on earth would you be able to know that "most congressmen use government subsidized health care plans"? That information is private.
