Why do liberals want to amend the constitution to overturn the citizens united decision?
Don't they realize that the restrictions they are proposing will do one of two things? It will either give the government the power to shut down any corporately owned newspaper, television or radio station or if they are exempted from the proposed restrictions it will say that people rich enough to own a newspaper, television or radio station can influence elections all they want but a group of people who can only afford a half page ad in a newspaper are banned from making their position known. Either is a tremendous restriction on freedom of the press and freedom of speech.
Christopher Hayes from MSNBC along with numerous other liberal commentators have talked about amending the Constitution to declare that corporations and other groups are exempted from the constitutional protections of the bill of rights.
@ ingsoc, Cons are flinging and SJesusReality, There is an article coauthored by Senators Tom Udall, Dick Durbin, Jeff Merkley, Chuck Schumer and Sheldon Whitehouse posted on Huffington Post on 11-13-11 that calls for a Constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United decision. I won't hold my breath waiting for my apology

because they foolishly believe it will end superpacs. It doesn't, in fact CU is an anti-pac ruling that allows corporations (which almost never do it) and Labor Unions (which actually do utilize the CU ruling) to spend independently on informative advertisements WITHOUT having to start a PAC. Success in overturning the CU decision would effectively cripple current union political spending.

because the citizens united is exactly the opposite of its title...very shrewd. Its about moe power for coproations and the wealthy and less for the individual....The intent and spirit of the constitution was "one person, one vote". This ruling turns that on its head. Oh, and the first line from an article by IWatch says it all...."The 2012 election will be the most expensive and least transparent presidential campaign of the modern era".

Yah got a link for that accusation? No? Of course not, people who make things up never have a link.
Would you like to see a link showing how Cons want to abolish the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution?
How about hundreds of links showing how Cons urinate on the 1st Amendment as often as possible?

So how exactly is the Citizens United Supreme Court decision a constitutional issue? It is only if you are assuming corporations are people and money equals the freedom of speech. I'd say you are completely wrong on both accounts.

You are assuming that you know what the constitutional amendment would say. There are many ways to word something so that you avoid unintended consequences. Besides, the repercussions of this wrong decision are so negative that it would almost be hard to make things worse.
