Diabetes or something else?

The past few days or so I've had a pain in my left foot every once in a while, which occurs daily. I also

had a sharp pain in my left arm and chest yesterday a few times but that went away. Anyways, today my phone has gone numb and now my left leg, about up to right below my knee is numb. I'm a 17 year old male and I will be going to the doctor. Also, if I didn't make it for a week or two would anything happen?

Those are not symptoms of untreated diabetes. I don't know what you've got, but I doubt that you're diabetic.

Suspicion of diabetes is a legitimate and I applaud you for making the decision to see your physician because if it is something like Diabetes, controlling it early and effectively will you a chance to live almost 100% normal life.

As for symptoms that usually appear BEFORE nerve damage (what is referred to as Diabetic Neuropathy in medicine), they are usually: 1) Polydipsia (excessive thirst/drinking) 2) Polyphagia (excessive eating) 3) Polyuria (excessive urination) 4) dry mouth..... along with a few other symptoms which if you wikipedia them you can read more on but I would ask my patient about these symptoms first before moving onto more extensive lab tests to "DIAGNOSE" diabetes.

As for a more direct response to your question....Nobody really knows if something would happen to you or not. Maybe, maybe not!! But I sure wouldn't take a chance if I were you. If your doctor is busy and doesn't have appointments, find another physician that is available tomorrow. If you can't find one, go to Urgent Care or an emergency room at a hospital near you. Emergency room bills can be pretty expensive sometimes but if you have a decent insurance, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Wow uh, if you're having sharp pains in your left arm and chest (over your heart) you have right to be a little worried.. You should definitely start taking some proactive steps immediately.

If you go to a doctor the first thing they'll do is give you a few tests, he'll check your breathing and if you're nervous or shaky during the visit you'll get an anxiety diagnosis and get meds for that.. I advise going to the doctor only if the pains become too much to bare, or if you suffer dizziness or inability to move a body part, or pretty much any serious symptom.

There are some natural steps you can take that'll cost you like what, ten or fifteen bucks I think if you go to Wal-mart to pick the things up.

Anyways here's a couple of links to some articles I've written recently that should inform you of what you can do about this before going to a doctor.. But from the sounds of it you either have a pressure issue or a clotting issue.

http://healthmad.com/health/grapefruit/ <-General heart health, this'll increase the immune function in your heart, any clots or obstructive material will be reduced/removed.

http://healthmad.com/conditions-and-diseases/onion... <-Anti-clotting, this'll reduce/eliminate any clots you have in your body according to how much you dose yourself with.

I hope you get better and do be prepared to make a visit to the hospital if things turn south.

I almost forgot that you said you were actually worried about it being diabetes,

there are some natural ways to reduce blood sugar such as goldenseal and cinnamon.

The first indications of diabetes would usually be frequent urination, thirst and weight loss. Foot pain due to diabetic neuropathy are long term consequences if the glucose levels are untreated for years perhaps decades.

You wouldn't expect long term effects as your first indications of diabetes.

Of course, diabetes is easy to test for so talk to your Doctor, tell them about your symptoms and you'll quickly see how fast the idea of diabetes is discounted.
