If Ron Paul ran as a 3rd-party candidate he would take votes away from whoever wins the Republican nomination, which would almost certainly give Obama the election. It's happened before, in 1912 Teddy Roosevelt ran on his own against both Taft and Wilson. Either Roosevelt or Taft probably would have won on their own but they split votes and Wilson won instead. This is why major 3rd-party candidates simply don't come around very often and we have essentially a two-party system in this country.
It's possible all 3 candidates could split the vote enough no one wins a majority of the vote and the vote would go to the House of Representatives. If the election was decided by Congress there would probably be riots in the streets. However, it is much more likely Paul would take votes away from the Republican candidate since he is a Republican himself and therefore more similar to them.

Good question. He has a broad base of support. Folks like me that used to vote Republican, may not do so in the next election regardless of what Ron Paul does. (Don't think for a second that i would vote for any of the Dims either.)
So I say a third party would not be a nightmare to them. They would probably be glad to get Conservatives, Libertarians and true Liberals (not progressives) out of their party.

0bama's second term is going to be the ruin of the United States as a world leader, welcome to the third world. And should for any reason Ron Paul should be elected it will guarantee the total failure of the America way of life, yes I'm talking about the third world.

it's hard to say. many people believe that he would divide the republican vote, but he has many independent and liberal supporters. a lot of people are voting for who they like rather than just a party this time.
