The atmosphere and tone is SOOOO dark. It was the only time we got to hear Per Yngve Ohlin do the songs he wrote for the next album before he killed himself.

most of the music that i listen to is usually meaningful and about hardships (even though it's mostly screaming metalcore and technical metal) but the darkest that i know is probably Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses by Atreyu. it's not that dark, it's mostly about anger and depression, but that's all i could think of
