what can social services do about my baby?

i am 25 weeks pregnant and have been smoking marijuana... i am not looking for criticism and could care less what your opinions are about me. i simply want to know what would have to happen for social services to get involved. my doctor has given me a urine test that came up positive. what would have to happen for them to take my baby away? when should i stop smoking in order to make sure that they cant take my daughter away?

I AM NOT ASKING YOU TO TELL ME HOW BAD OF A MOM I AM.

i am a vegetarian dont drink caffeine and eat healthy. what you guys put in your babies is far worse than what i put in mine.

The first answerer is wrong. Don't let her scaremonger you. If you have a history of drug abuse then you will be monitored and put on a drug rehabilitation course.

The likelihood is that you will be monitored throughout your pregnancy and possibly after your baby is born but in no way is your baby automatically taken from you unless there's been a huge, police filed history on you.

I work in child psychiatry and i don't believe in any form of drug use, however, neither do i agree with people giving you advice when it's not true.

I wouldnt say your a bad mom, lots of people do. Your really shouldnt do to the fact the baby doesnt have a choice. But I suggest stop now if they already tested you. Social services can come in the moment your baby is born and take them, if they knew you where smoking it for sure they dont even have to tell you. I dont think pot is bad, but with a baby involvef it is. Just dont smoke it anymore while your pregnant and just explain to your docter that you stoped and why. Garentee the docter already told social services. So just be careful here and on

It would all depend on whether your doctor follows the law and reports the current positive test to Child Service, and how diligent they are in responding. I have a friend who fosters children born to these situations in our area. She has picked infants up for something as minor as your incident and children who born at the far end of the extreme, requiring detox before they can leave the hospital. In most cases she has the children for just a few weeks or months until they are placed in long term homes. She has never returned one to a parent yet as she is considered an emergency care giver and the parents whose children end up at her home are required to take parenting classes before they can get their children back.

If you are really curious, talk to your doctor. Find out what their policy is and what they are required to do by law. If you are concerned at all, stop now.

Could very well be it's already too late. Using any type of drugs during pregnancy is considered grounds for taking your baby away from you.

If you are serious about keeping her, I would stop right now, and call up your doctor to vow that you are indeed stopping. Might be they give you a second chance, but you'll probably end up peeing in cups to prove you're drug free for the rest of the pregnancy, as well as during breastfeeding.

It may depend on the state, but you *and* the baby will be tested. If you test positive, and if the baby tests positive, there is a protocol that will be followed. You need to find out what it is. Why don't you call your local CPS and ask?

In most states, physicians and teachers are mandated reporters, so it is likely that CPS has been or will be contacted. So it is likely that they are already involved or will be soon.

You need to stop now or they will take the baby away as soon as it's born. They probably have a family lined up waiting who have never smoked in their lives and who go to church every Sunday and have loads of money and a 6 bedroomed house. I feel sorry for that unborn child inside you it actually is being starved of oxygen and will end up dumber than other children.
