Tips for getting a Rott/Lab Mix back in shape?
We have a 10+/- year old Rott/Lab mix that's a bit out of shape. She's not a butterball, but she's not very toned anymore either. Vet says her weight is ok at 115lbs. Just needs to tone up!
Where do I start?

Did the vet also x-ray her for arthritis and/or hip problems? Why wouldn't the vet have told you how much exercise this senior dog can tolerate? That would be the first thing to ask the vet - we can't possibly know how much exercise is safe for her. And exercise is what a dog needs to tone up. Walking, swimming, off-leash running - how much depends on what the vet says is safe.

Start her out the same way you start getting your couch potato kids in shape...a nice walk every night. In fact, if you have couch potatoe kids make them walk the dog and kill two birds with one stone.

Walking her daily would be a great place to start. When she uses her muscles daily, they will tone up. I can't believe that you would not know this..... Walk your dog EVERY DAY.... it is that simple.
