I've been into firearms for more than 35 years and I've never heard of the three P's when opening a firearm action. The half dozen or so classes I have taken never had any mention of it. None of the countless books I have read on the subject, by authors ranging from John Taylor, Elmer Keith, Colonel Cooper, too many to list, none have made mention of the 3 P's. When I took my NRA instructors course they never said a word about the 3 P's. If you find out what these 3 P's supposedly are, how about you let us know.
Source(s): Maybe it's a Canadian thing? Something like Prove the weapon is empty, Point weapon in safe direction, Pull action open? That's my best guess. - akluisLv 79 years ago

I am mystified. I have guesses at two-point in safe direction, and put finger off trigger (kind of a weird way to put it). I don't even have a third guess.

I was starting to feel stupid because I had never heard of this, good thing I'm not the only one.
