i5 2500k with Asus P8H61-M compatibility question?
I just got an Intel i5 2500k and tried it in the above motherboard with DDR3 and it rufuses to work properly. On powering up it just beeps and goes into a continual loop and beeping. Evenyually I managed to stop the looping and got into BIOS (CPU Temp is 28C. However It still wont read my memtest or linux CD boot disk either. Cmos jumper was reset and BIOS settings all set to default and still no joy. windows 7 will not install and just bluescreens even with the AHCI setting on. The motherboard and memory works perfectly with an Intel G620 cpu, but will not work when inserting the 2500k, Psu is a 500w and the 2500k IS on the motherbord cpu Vendor list with installed BIOS Version. Am I missing something? anyone got any idea whats going on? Or do I have a bad cpu?

Hello,
I referenced your 2 CPUs and found that there was a small difference in the name of the sockets (the Intel G620 CPU requires a FCLGA1155 (fliped chip LGA 1155) slot and the Intel i5 requires a LGA1155), but socket 1155 is socket 1155, so no issues there. Being that the first processor mentioned (i5) was older than the G620 seems irrelevant as well (older by 1Q (3 Mo), both made in '11).I would check your PSU (power supply unit) and see if that is a cause for this. I have seen that happen in the past and a swap out might help you following the next test. I recommend using another PSU you have in house or on another system to test your PSU, Mobo and Processor combination to ensure it is not a PSU issue. If this turns out to not be the issue then the CPU is bad, which in that case, I would get it returned and swapped out immediately.

You need to update (flash) the bios fo that... the G620 is bios # 504 The 2500K is # 022 You should get the newest bios just be sure. You do know your defeating the "K" purpose by using the H61 chip set. Go to the Asus site and look up your CPU...it has the bios recommended...with the box "GO" after it..it will take you to the download.
