Pentacostal but never spoken in tongues?

I've been babtised, I've repented, I've been saved.

But I've never spoken in tongues.

I'm confused.

Many say it's beautiful, others say you'll go to hell if you don't, I never have spoken in tongues though I've prayed for it. Why?

Everyone cannot speak in tongues as Paul said and he also puts it as the lowest gift and yet this is ALL Christians chase in the Church today. Something is very wrong here!

1 Corinthians 12:27-31 “Now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28 And God has set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way."

The answer to what Paul is saying is NO! And we are told to covet the best gifts and yet 99% of Christians covet the least important gift of tongues. And yet we are told that not all get tongues and yet some are still saying you can. This is contrary to what scripture teaches and is WRONG!

I have found that those with the real gift know what they are saying and of course no one wants hear or believe this. Perhaps somebody pushing this babble would like to explain why the following information is fact and why no one seems to care or wants to know. And also consider if Satan has a counterfeit for everything than what is his? Something that you know what you are saying or meaningless babble that makes someone feel good because they THINK it is from God!

Speaking in tongues as we see it today did not come about as a result of studying the Bible. It just out of the blue happened. It should be of extreme concern to all Christians because it is not uniquely a Christian practice. Various studies have revealed that speaking in tongues is present in non-Christian religions all around the world. It is practiced in China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Siberia, Arabia, Burma, and Arctic regions just to name a few. Glossolalia is found among the Eskimos, Japanese séances in Hokkaido, in a small cult led by Genji Yanagide of Moji City, the shamans in Ethiopia in the zar cult and various spirits in Haitian Voodoo and is also found extensively in African tribal religions.

Speaking in tongues as seen in the Church today is a fairly recent phenomenon in Christianity. It came about in four waves. The 1st wave of speaking in tongues started around 1901 and was founded in the traditional Pentecostal movement by Charles Parham of Bethel College, Kansas. The 2nd wave of tongues speaking, neo-Pentecostalism or the Charismatic movement entered most Churches in the early 1960’s in Van Nuys, California, under Dennis Bennett, Rector of St Marks Episcopal (Anglican) Church. In ten years it spread to all major Protestant families of the world, reaching a total of 55 million people by 1990. It included the Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Roman Catholics and many others. The 3rd wave, the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement started in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1967 among students and faculty of DuQuesne University, and by 1993 it touched the lives of over 100 million Catholics in over 238 nations. The 4th wave of speaking in tongues, the Evangelicals started in 1981 at Fuller Theological Seminary with John Wimber. By 1990, 33 million in the world were moving in signs and wonders, though they play down labels such as “Pentecostal” and “Charismatic”.

You havn't yet received the Holy Spirit, "thirst and you shall be filled".

In Luke 11:5-13 Jesus tells a parable of a woman who confeses she has nothing to offer others and persists until she gets what she needs.

Acts 8:12-16 is an example where people believed & were baptised but hadn't received the Spirit - the apostles came to pray with them.

We will be happy to do the same:

when you say baptized,is this water or Spirit, the truth is ,1st saved 2nd seek for sanctification by the Spirit in deep prayer, the Spirit will not dwell in an unclean temple(your body),then seek the baptizm of the Holy Ghost, and pray until you recieve,by the way He (Holy Ghost) inhabits the Praises of his people, when this is done you will not only speak in tongues, you will also feel the power,

sarah. . .like the believers of acts 19, sometimes the imposition of hands is necessary for the impartation of the holy spirit from one believer to another. dont feel condemned. being filled with the holy spirit has nothing to do with your salvation but rather, having the power to live it. acts 1.8. you should have a pastor who knows how to minister the holy spirit. if not, then seek a spirit filled church. let me know if you cant find one. chrislandwer@yahoo.com
