Low carb diet questions...could really use some advice?
I've been doing a low carb diet for 3 weeks now. I'm overweight, and have PCOS, which means I have some insulin resistance. I've had very little simple carbs (no white bread or rice or pasta) in those three weeks (I've had 1/2 can of coke and one piece of Valentine's candy--my 2 slip-ups). The only bread I've had is 3 sandwiches over this period of time and they were made with those whole wheat sandwich rounds, ham and cheese with no mayo. I have a salad for one meal each day with spinach and baby greens. I've been drinking water or decaf tea only, no sugar. I've been drinking about 6-8 cups of water a day. I'm also having a glass of milk a day. I've been going to the gym about 3 times a week. I haven't lost an ounce.
Everyone I speak to says when they went low carb, the weight came off pretty quick, even with no exercise. I just can't seem to catch a break. I've given up just about everything, as far as food goes. Just eating lean meats, morning star sausages, eggs, cheese, tons of salad and nuts of all kinds. What am I doing wrong?
Seriously? One half of one piece? I don't think that would do it. What's that, like 5 carbs? I'm not talking a half a candy bar--half a piece of candy from a box. Threw the rest away.
I have breakfast around 7:00, a snack around 9:00, lunch at 11:30 and a snack around 4, then dinner around 6:30. I am eating between 1000-1200 calories a day, even with my Coke slip up.

Are you staying under 20 carbs a day? I fluctuated at the end of my first week too. I gained 2lbs at the end of it. Then by the end of the second I was back down again. Basically I lost 6-8lbs in the induction phase. One thing that is key is to weigh yourself in the morning every day. I always weigh about 2lbs more at the end of the day but that is not true weight. I am pretty much at my goal weight now so I eat 30-40 carbs a day sometimes. But it is good carbs like beans and fruit you know? I'm not sure how successful I will be because this is only week 3 but I know that weight fluctuated depending on how much you drink, eat, whatever so don't get discouraged. Some peoples weight fluctuates 8lbs in a day! Gage by how your body looks and not by the scale I guess.

I was 6 foot, 220. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, but not really bad. I met with a nutritionist who didn't exactly put me on a diet but gave me information about going low carb. One of the things she figured out was that I wasn't eating with proper regularity. I hate breakfast. Anyway, she told me to start eating something for breakfast, and to limit myself to 150-200 carbs a day, 1500-2000 calories, and to keep fat at 1/3rd of my intake. I am to eat about 50 carbs per meal, then another 50 throughout the day.
I eat a fiber one granola bar or a greek yogurt every morning. For lunch, I often eat Joseph's flax seed pitas (6 carbs, Walmart has them) with lean turkey, laughing cow cheese, and lettuce. I'll also eat homemade tuna salad on Joseph's pitas. For dinner, I go with lean meats, and lot of veggies and salads.
I hate diet drinks, but the Gatorade G2 is ok. I rarely rink sodas. I try to walk a minimum of 2 miles a dat, preferably 4. Hershey's milk chocolate bars with almonds are only 20 carbs, so I have one of them occasionally. I eat nuts and jerky for snacks.
In 7 months I lost 30 pounds It was slow, but that's the best way to lose weight.
Get a fatsecret.com or myfitnesspal.com account. They are free, and you can track your intake throughout the day. It takes a lot of discipline, but I've lost weight, and have gotten the diabetes under control without drugs.
Be patient.

Life style is often part of the issue. Life style changes now could delay or prevent you from getting diabetes later. Learn here https://tr.im/p8wa2
What you eat is not actually the cause of diabetes, but how you live can be. If you sit on the couch all day, your chances of developing diabetes goes up greatly.
Just do the best you can to not gain weight and to maintain an active life style and that will greatly help reduce some of your risks.

You blew it with the valentines candy.
But good work with the decaf tea.
Best of luck.

Listen to Cindy's response. You need to eat more. Sounds counter-intuitive. Also, I notice you eat "lean meats". The majority of your calories should actually be fat.
