Who did Santorum mean when he said "mainline Protestants'? The old lady @ the Presbyterian church?

Just curious if the potential Republican candidate believes that all the Methodists (like GW Bush) and the Lutherans and the Episcopalians are led by Satan.

LOL Sounds like the Assemble of God, in the 50's & 60's... I heard that a lot, from behind the pulpit...

Guess there's some Catholics, that are adopting the same strategy...

It's a dog-whistle for the Evangelicals. By "mainline" he means Protestant churches that will allow women into the priesthood, ordain gay ministers, stay out of family planning issues, not run gay congregants out of the church on a rail, etc. So yes, the Episcopal Chruch would be one that he was referencing when he said "mainline Protestants".

Santorum's trying to win the favor of the Evangelicals, as most Evangelicals have a fairly dim view of Catholicism and mainline Protestants. Although Santorum says he is Catholic, his beliefs are quite extreme for a Catholic and actually are closer to those of Evangelicals.
