Why are Australian / New Zealand movies rated so low on imdb?

To me, the most reliable movie review/rating websites:

1) Rotten Tomatoes- Critics ratings AND Non-critics' ratings

2) Metacritic- aggregate reviews from a variety of sources.

3) (If i'm desperate or don't feel the ratings in the websites mentioned above have enough reviews), then Roger Ebert's "star rating" system.

That said, IMBD seriously is nothing compared to RT. Plain and simple, that's why the ratings don't hold much weight against RT. Here's the facts-

Rotten Tomatoes includes online reviews from authors that are certified members of various writing guilds or film critic associations. It provides a unique and rather wise approach to summing up the general consensus of opinion from a large database of reviewers. According to their "tomatometer" if a movie gets more than 60% approval on weighted average, it's fresh, or if it gets less, it's rotten.

Their overall score for a movie is given as a total percentage, and is based on a wighted average of all critics reviews, each of which is shown in brief and linked so you can click through to read any or every every one. If that's not good enough then you can look at the "audience reviews and ratings" as well.

IMDB does the same sort of thing, EXCEPT it gives room for some hyped up tea caddie film fan boy who LOVES a mediocre film like Slumdog, then the first thing he will do is create 5 imdb.com accounts and vote 10 stars to slumdog millionaire on each account. RT doesn't allow room for this bullsh!ttery.

Animal Imdb

Snowtown and Animal Kingdom are both fantastic films. I especially love the early scene in Animal Kingdom when he is watching Deal or No Deal while his mother is on the floor, suffering from an overdose. That scene in itself says so much...

It's because IMDB is viewer's ratings, and we all know there is a bigger proportion of people who like crappy films to people who appreciate good films nowadays. I often feel like IMDB rates higher when the film is more enjoyable, but not necessarily better. I trust Rotten Tomatoes for most films.

I look at both but agree that Rottentomatoes is much better, but disagree with some movie ratings in each. If I like a movie I really don't care what imdb or rottertomatoes say

I think it may have something to do with the fact that Australian/New Zealand films aren't as heavily exposed to a global audience. If less people are voting then there's a possibility that the rating is being dragged down more. As for Boondock Saints I'm actually surprised at the negative response to it. It's not a brilliant movie by any stretch, but I do think it's a fairly nice piece of fun. I really don't have any idea how to explain how the system works. Coincidence I guess.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Remake) 6.1 I for one am a fan of the original, but when I first saw the trailer for this at the movies, I was super excited. After watching it, I wasn't blown away and yes I did do comparing, BUT I really enjoyed this movie. I think the Atmosphere of the film was pretty spot on. I think the acting was good by all actors, Of course there are other actresses that would have been better in the lead role, but Jessica wasn't that terrible. Nothing can ever touch the originals, but as far as remakes go, I think this is one of the better remakes.

I think IMDB's rating is based on votings.... not sure, but that's what I heard... I still trust rottentomatoes

Because most movie watchers are simpletons. If its not Star Wars / Twilight -they no little about good films. This also means they don't want to watch any foreign films, which is really sad.

I actually was talking about this with my friends recently, I completely agree. I mean Beautiful Kate 6.8/10, Lantana 7.2/10. It's completely ridiculous.
