Christians do you understand the following verse?
Psalm 119:75 I know, O LORD, that Your judgments are righteous, And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.
Thank you Never Submit. I agree that the Scripture (in context) does give us encouragement - if we would be exercised by it.
Thank you also pityblue, the Father only disciplines those He loves.
They Call Me Dave, I believe you do.
2FollowHim Thank you.
Psalm 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I have kept Thy Word.
Hebrews 12:11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. NASB
It appears that David knew the truth of this although it was written long after he had departed this world.
Snow Bird, thank you for your comments regarding Psalm 119. This passage of Scripture is also one of my favourites, like you I have many verses highlighted. The references to God's Word, His precepts, His statutes, His law, His commandments really does stress the importance of His revelation to us. One day I hope to commit this passage to memory, three and a half verses a week and in a year it would be hid in my heart.
Pray .... Thank you, yes you do understand, you are a loved son.

Pearl, yes, He has revealed this to you.
Filly, thank you for your input.

Yes because whole of Psalm 119 is one of my very favourite Bible Chapters. I have so many verses in that chapter underlined or marked in some way that it's looking rather ropey!!! Verse 67 explains that Scripture admirably anyway - because it states "Before I was afflicted I went astray but now I keep Your Word, and that coupled with Hebrews 12: 5-11 explains it all.
I love the scriptures in Hebrews because it states categorically that if we endure God's chastening (which I believe is the "before I was afflicted I went astray) that God is speaking of then God assures us that we are TRUE SONS and NOT ILLEGITIMATE.
That is nothing but a COMFORT to me. In addition God says that although chastening doesn't seem too joyful at the time, nevertheless (that means despite how grievous it feels) - afterwards it yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness TO THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN TRAINED BY IT. (Heb 12:11 James 3: 17 & 18)
When we were children and our parents had to whack us, we had a sudden attitude change! Now it is the same with God who is our spiritual Father and we His children. If He has to "whack" us, so be it. I expect it will give me an attitude change and that is what I need because I cannot change myself. It takes the Lord to do it. So I thank Him for His occasional "whacks". They only do me good.
I rest my case!

you've an unlucky misquote: Hebrews 4:8-9 actual reads, "8For if Joshua had given them relax, God does not have spoken later about yet another day. 9There continues to be, then, a Sabbath-relax for the human beings of God..." Joshua, not Jesus is the call in verse 8. After reading the encompassing verses you'll hit upon it truly is area of a passage about faith best the Israelites into God's promised land (relax) and in addition faith will lead us to God's promised relax (which has not yet come/nevertheless continues to be). it truly is touching on Heaven, the resting position for the honest, it remains grasped until eventually after death.

Psalm 119:67 gives the answer to this, the reason why it was necessary.
'Faithfulness' when researched literally means 'firmness', so God
was firm. Like a firm Father due to verse 67. We read that
'God chastises those He loves'. And if we think about this at all,
we do know why this is.

Yes, it's saying that although you have afflicted me (chastised me), I know all you do is right and you will always be faithful to me to the end. It's agreeing with what God did although it was painful. As we look back, we see how we might not have ever changed if God didn't do something severe to us although we hated it at the time.

GOD KNOWS THE END FROM THE BEGINNING
ISAIAH 46: 8-10
Remember this, keep it in mind,
take it to heart, you rebels.
Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.
John 14:29 And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.
Did you know that you can't observe “my imaginary friend” with science because he is not within our domain?

Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.
I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin.
You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9 that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.
Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I AM SAVED !!!

I believe that since God sees the beginning from the end and visa versa and since he is all good and loving we can be sure that what ever He allows/sends our way is for our ultimate good. In fact it is necessary. We are called to share in His sufferring and this is actually a gift though trials can be very painful. Like the verse quotes below I often cry out to God to "hold my tight" when moving through them! God IS Good, He really is!
I can see now, God, that your decisions are right;
your testing has taught me what's true and right.
Oh, love me—and right now!—hold me tight!
just the way you promised.
Now comfort me so I can live, really live;
your revelation is the tune I dance to.

Read V73 thru 80...... afflicted can be taken to mean disciplined..... the Psalmist is thanking God for the maturity he has gained from God's afflicting/disciplining him...

The psalmist wrote: “May your loving-kindness serve, please, to comfort me.” (Ps. 119:76) An outstanding way in which Jehovah comforts his people is by giving them exhortation and guidance. How can family heads benefit from the example of our heavenly Father and use their tongue to comfort those under their care? They can do so by providing needed direction and encouragement

We are Gods children and when we do things he doesn't like then he can punish us, so just like our earthly parents are faithful in punishing us for things we do wrong God does the same.
- ?Lv 79 years ago
That he punishes and teaches us only as a just and loving father corrects and instructs his children.
