1.
The curved surface area is 2 pi r h.
The total surface area is 2 pi r h + 2 pi r^2.
So:
2 pi r h + 2 pi r^2 = 3 (2 pi r h)
2 pi r h + 2 pi r^2 = 6 pi r h
2 pi r^2 = 4 pi r h
r = 2 h
h = r / 2
Answer: The height is one half the radius.
2.
10/y + 9/x = -8/xy
Multiply through by xy.
10x + 9y = -8
Find the x intercept by setting y to zero.
10x = -8
x = -8/10
x = -4/5
Find the y intercept by setting x to zero.
9y = -8
y = -8/9
Answer: x intercept is (-4/5, 0). y intercept is (0, -8/9).
