Does anyone have any experience with Naniqui Guest House in Culebra, Puerto Rico?
I found it by accident snooping around Google maps. The 15 or so photos I found look like cute little place my boyfriend and I would enjoy. It's right on the water. I found just two reviews on Tripadvisor.com and I would just feel more comfortable with a little more information. I understand "you get what you pay for" however, we are not looking to stay in a Hilton. What is important is friendliness of owners, I have read reviews on different hotels on Culebra Island and it seems like a helpful staff/owner is really important. Also, we want to have good views. That's about it. Any information you can share is much appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

The poster above me suggested that Culebra and Viequez are dangerous. In reality, the whole island is extremely dangerous and you should not be going as a couple but group. It has the highest crime rates out of all the States from all the crimes but capita and worse if you make it a ratio.
However, Viequez and Culebra is generally more safer considering the low local population and high tourist population. Furthermore, the locals generally are friendlier considering the main source of income from both islets is tourism. Renting a lodge is not a bad idea so long little housekeeping is needed or present...well, present when you are present. This is a general rule of thumb regardless where you may vacation.
The advantages from lodging vs hotel are the prices for accomodations and customer service is more concentrated, therefore better. The night life is generally in the mainland and Fajardo is safer considering it's neighbors. San Juan tourist zone should not be attempted without knowledge of the area and should be attended in a pack of people...not 2.
Furthermore, if you wish for a nightlife you can travel to any of the other hotels like El Conquistador in Fajardo which has a bar and club for example.
Play it smart and you'll have a great time! I personally would lodge instead of hotel just because of the fact I do not want to see people when vacationing. =D
I visit New York but vacation in the boondocks =D

If your going to stay in puerto rico, specially culebras and vieques its best to stay in a hilton or something maybe not so costy but more of an american hotels and tourist areas instead of little bu owner hotels. Im puerto rican and I traveled around the island. I love puerto rico beautiful sights and its way safe than other countries but culebras and vieques are not places safe to be wondering around in lonely beaches or secluded ones in the middle of the night like the romatic movies are...its reality and there is people that are not to be trusted in these places specially in secluded or late hours or too eraly in the morning. Its best to be around people and in safe day light hours. These little hotels will have hidden fees and later on it can come up more ccosty than you can imagine trying to get tourists to believe they are cheap only locals know the deals and they dont play games but they will play games with hidden fees and taxes and unknown charges you will have a big question mark about. The photos can be altered, but when you see the real thing...its dirty and its not what you expected remember its self owned and they dont care about complaints and keeping things clean...I suggest you go to an american chain hotels...you can also try hotels called paradores de puerto rico...these are self owned but have more restrictions in terms of dealing with tourism of puerto rico and they get fines if they dont put up the real deal.
Ive learned my lesson and before paying for a room I ask to see the room before and exactly the one room that will be given to you. You have the right to do so and ask for this service if they deny it...go somewhere else because they have something down and dirty to hide. Some will be gladly to show you and if you are satisfied you can check-in and pay.

brazil my mum and dad went to puerto rico some months in the past and they suggested that they have got the WORST drivers there yet possibly it truly is because we are from the city it truly is #a million on the friendliest drivers record, and that i in my opinion got here upon that type of unusual, yet i wager if that is like puerto rico in different cities, than possibly that is not so awesome.
