I was walking into a synagogue for a bar mitzvah and these two old men laughed and called me shiksa?

I felt really mortified, because I am really Jewish myself. I was reading that sometimes Orthodox Jews will refer to a young woman who does not follow Orthodox precepts as a shiksa. I am trying to think what they could have meant. I was wearing a conservative dress that fell below my knees and a linen blazer. My head was not covered but then it was a Conservative shul and I am divorced. This has really bothered me. What do you think they could have meant? I was the only woman around so they must have been talking about me. I felt like I wished the pavement would open up and swallow me, I was that embarrassed. They were really old, could have been just meshugene, but I can't stop my blood from boiling about this.

Update:

@Kagos- Depending on how it's said, these men could have been calling me anything from maid to prostitute to abomination to piss pants to simply non Jew but in a not nice way as though it were an insult. So hell yes it's uncommon. Only a nudnik would say such a thing to a woman entering a shul, sorry.

    That seems very strange.

I can't believe an Orthodox Jews would call a Jewess a SHISKSA

A Shiksa is for a crude name for Unbelievers ( Ladies)'

    Definition of SHIKSA

ften disparaging: a non-Jewish girl or woman

: a Jewish girl or woman who does not observe Jewish precepts —used especially by Orthodox Jews

    Dictionary

A word like that should never be used at a Bar Mitzvah or at anytime

Where I'm from a lot of Jewish people call ATTRACTIVE women (generally those who aren't obviously Jewish) shiksa. So perhaps they weren't aware that you were Jewish & they meant that you were attractive and might be tempting to people there.

  • At the end of the day, it's just a couple of old farts and no one cares what they think. They laugh at people, not realising the whole world is laughing at them.

Huh. Is this really uncommon enough to warrant mention?
