i need help with this linear system!?
okay i know the answer is
x+y=16
x-y=6
(11,4)
but i am not sure how to get the answer.
the problem is:
This word problem must be solved using a system of linear equations.
the sum of two numbers is 16. (x+y=16) The difference of the two numbers is 6 (x-y=6). let x represent the larger number and y represent the smaller number.
a.) Set up a linear System.
b.) Solve the System and find the two numbers.
please help me, i need to study my old test questions (this is an old test question) so i can study for my finals! :'( thank you!!!!!!!!!

You're on the right track
x + y = 16 equation 1
x - y = 6 equation 2
Now, add equation 1 and equation 2 to get:
x + y + x - y = 16 + 6
2x = 22
x = 11
Now, substitute x's value back in either equation 1 or 2
11 + y = 16
y = 5
So the solution is (11, 5)

Take the first equation and solve for x:
x=16-y
Plug that into the x in the second equation:
(16-y)-y=6
16-2y=6
10=2y
y=5
Then plug 7 back into either equation as y
x + 5= 16
x=11
Then check your answers by plugging both back in.
11-5=6
correct!

How x+y=16. And. X is 11 and y 4 so 4+11=15 not 16.something wrong
Check it.cause i found x 10 and y 6.
