The Probability of God's Existence?

This question is for the swapping of intellectual speculations ONLY. I want no evangelizing, or things being stated as brute fact.

It is well known that God cannot be disproven since it is impossible to disprove a non-tautological existential claim. Of course, any reasonable person also recognizes the fact that God is yet to be proven, either. So it seems that the only way to arrive at a conclusion in this regard is to rely on probability. What, then, seems more probable to you: a universe that was created by an intelligent being (i.e. God), or a universe that was neither created nor is governed by said being?

Update:

I would like to point out that the question of, "which god are you referring to?" is completely irrelevant. This is a question of metaphysics, not cultural anthropology. What we are dealing with here is the probability that the origin of the universe was somehow intelligent, in which case it could very well be any god that was ever worshiped in the history of the world (or a different god entirely).

I would also like to state this: it doesn't do us very much good to say, "x is more probable," and leave it at that. Justification for probability is a necessary condition for a good argument.

Finally, while Kurt Godel did offer a unique mathematical proof for God's existence, it is important to note that there have been many advancements in modal logic since his time. Namely, the meaning of something being, "possibly necessary," has been placed under serious criticism, since it is conceptually equivalent to something just being, "necessary."

You can't get much more intellectual than this brilliant thinker, who was a friend and colleague of Albert Einstein.

He was called Kurt Godel, and he produced an equation showing how God can be logically proven, using mathematical formulae. This is not the same as the ontological arguments for God's existence, by the way. This is in another league!

Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formal_logi%E2%80%A6 which begins, "Mathematical logic (also known as symbolic logic)..." then click the link at the bottom for Kurt Godel, then read all about him and also click on the link to modal logic at the bottom of that page.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6del%%E2%80%A6

Paragraph 2 of the introduction contains a quote about Gödel and Dana Scott - very interesting.

Section 7 - Gödel's Ontological Argument and Temporal Modal Logic, contains info about "Temporal logic..."

Do make sure you are sitting down and with your brains revved up, because it's deep, deep stuff!

For me God is eternal. Has always and will always exist. Try as I may, I cannot deny that.

Now assuming Time is infinite, (with no beginning and no end)....as a realist, it would be unimaginable that the first thing in The Universe, before elementary particles formed, was a "being" which evolved to have the fortitude and knowledge to create that from which he was made. So I would say our Universe has a 0% chance of being created by God.

However, if "Our Universe" is just the result of a black hole or another unknown type of singularity that is part of a much larger realm within a much larger Universe, then the possibility does exist that somewhere out there beyond "Our Universe", there is a conscious being "lighting the spark" so to speak of new Universes. Personally, I put the probability of that at zero as well. But who knows.

Whats frustrating for me as a Christian, is that people are looking for the existence of God "out there". We don't live out there. We live here, in our homes on Earth. God is here, in my heart, so that i can give my children the brightest path to follow, so that the people in there lives will be inspired to be good friends, neighbors and respectful stewards of this planet.

i say the former. those planets out there and even this planet we live on is way too complicated to be created by nothing. now if it was the big bang and all that, it must have been pretty damn huge because there are more galaxies than the milky way and we have not even found the end of the universe (if it has one). there are theories but that's about it. and assuming it is true, "all the matter and energy" in that big bang, as well as "the dense energy" that caused the explosion, was also made of something.

and before all of these were made, what was the source of the creator? something also created "time" before it came into existence. therefore the creator is infinite (i.e. no beginning nor end), so there was no "before/after."

so the creation i'd like to think there's a big possibility of a creator, as there are, well, creations.

as for the governance it's tricky. before we can conclude that somebody is governing over us, we need to decide first if there is anything to govern for (what's bad for some people are just natural or even good for some.)

I believe the answers will come from life and the universe. No matter how complex life and the universe is, facts in the form of undeniable facts are what is needed. Theories are of no use unless they provide us with facts. What facts do we have that are universally undeniable? Life and the universe are just two.

If God exists then God would be the source of all life and the universe, life and the universe are not beyond our understanding, only the source is beyond our current knowledge.

For many God is just beyond belief. Belief allows the imagination to imagine what the truth is for you.

In other words, God is as real as the universe and you.

Probably you mean God as described by religious books or like when you use the word God here. So you are actually asking about the probability of the God's existance as shown in books, The concept of God with a shape, face, mass, volume is another thing. And the concept of God without face, shape, mass, volume is another thing. God can only be the source of energies of all kinds known or to be discovered in future. energy can be converted into matter. so this power which has no shape or mass converted some energy into mass and thus this whole universe was made. This shapeless, massless, faceless Power which governs all energy may be called God if you want to. if you dont want, you are at liberty. This power doesnt care.

I'd say that if your definition of 'god' is an omniscient, omnipotent, benevolent being, then 0%

If 'god' has one or two of these traits, but not all three, then 1%

If 'god' merely created the Universe, but does not meddle in its affairs, then 5%

If 'god' is a being which can be objectively regarded as being superior to humans, then 30%

And if you consider the four fundamental forces (e.g. gravity) to be gods, then 100%

It is very funny to see many believe there is no Jehovah God. Sure science has some genuine information but it does not contradict what the bible teaches, in fact its quite harmonious. Take a look at all the earths cycles, research how the universe works together and ask yourself "Did this happen by chance or was it designed?"

I would first like to find out which god we are speaking of because there have been so many thousands over the years. If we are speaking of the same god as the one that created the fairies in the garden or the leprechauns, I would choose that one because I just love leprechauns and especially those that ride unicorns.

Actual observations of nature and experimentation shows us that without the organized and controlled introduction of energy things move towards disorder. This is commonly referred to as entropy. Although temporary reversable increases in organization have been observed, there has always been an organized mechanism behind such increases in organization that directs and controls things. Because of these observations, the notion of spontaneous organization through purely natural processes is highly improbable and certianly less probably than the organization being the result of some intelligent organized force.

If we call that intelligent organized force God then the evidence makes God more probable than the universe just popping into existence and organizing itself spontaneously.

God is light, with out it your not able to exist. God is the written word, God created all things. The language of the code has been shown to be true. Go to synchronicitywins.com/blogspot or google synchronicitywins. or go to timesfinalrose.org. then you can speculate even more of what your asking. probable or not probable.
