Do you need to have the latest update for the Sims 3 in order to use the expansion packs?
Because the recent updates cause my copy of the Sims 3 to lag terribly, I reinstalled it without the updates and it worked fine. But, if I want to get and use expansion packs, do you have to have a fully updated game, or will they work fine without them? Or will the expansions automatically update the game or something like that?

No, that's not what I meant. When I download the updates for the game (not expansions, just the base Sims 3), it lags terribly. So, I uninstalled the game, reinstalled it and turned down the updates, so now, my copy of the game is 1.0.631.00002. Do the expansions require that the game need to be fully up to date?
