Maths problem please help!!! And explain!!?
Our teacher gave this problem to us and told us to solve it for homework...... I'm finding it really difficult to solve so can someone please explain how to solve it???
Maths Problem: Daniel has $1000 000 and three friends. He leaves the money to his friends in a will in the ratio 2:3:5. How much does each friend receive?
Thank you to both of the answers I now understand how to do it!!! (It now seems so much simpler!!!) I can only choose one answer so I am going to have to choose the top one because it explains it in terms of algebra and what we have been talking about in class!!! Thank you to both of you though!!!

2:3:5 (2+3+5)= 10 shares. $10000 000 divided by 10=$1 000 000.
Therefore $1 000 000=1 share
There are 3 parts to the ratio (Friend 1 has 2 shares, Friend2 has 3 shares, Friend 3 has 5 shares).
So therefore, three he has 3 friends.
ANSWER:
Friend 1 gets:
2(shares)x$1 000 000=$2 000 000
Friend 2 gets:
3(shares)x$1 000 000=$3 000 000
Friend 3 gets:
5(shares)x$1 000 000=$5 000 000
Do you understand or would you like me to explain it more?

Ratios are a reduced form relationship: 2:3 is the same as 10: 15 some constant has
multiplied both the numbers.
In our problem we will call our constant multiplier"x"
2x + 3x + 5x = 1,000,000
10x = 1,000,000
x= $100,000
so
$200,000, $300,000, and $500,000
