1969 Charger Will Not Start?

I have a 69 Charger R/T and it will not start. Drove it the night before and everything worked great. Got in it the next day and it was dead (no click click, hum, nada). There is a new battery and alternator in it. Some electrical systems do still work. I have traced the wiring and all seems okay . What could be the problem?

Update:

My Charger is double black and NOT a General Lee POS.

Check all electrical system again and look for any loose wiring and check battery for spark. Next comes the fuel system. Are you getting enough fuel to carburetor? Usually it's electrical or fuel system.

If I recall, there's a small starter relay on the firewall behind or near the left exhaust manifold....if you jump the terminals on it with screwdriver, you might get it to crank over.....turn key to Run position first. I had the same problem with my 69 RT 440 years ago and got by with that until I replaced the relay.

It could also be caused by a bad neutral safety switch which prevents starting unless the shifter is in Park or Neutral (auto trans)....try starting in Neutral or wiggle the shifter slightly while trying to start.

The NS switch is either on the lower end of the column by the firewall...inside the car....or attached to the clutch pedal if manual trans. You can test for power in and power out at the switch or jumper the wires together to bypass temporarily.....some switches for Auto trans also incorporate the backup light switch so be sure to jumper the right wires.

Correction: the NS switch is in the trans on the Charger model....was thinking of a Chevy I had.

jump the starter relay and see if that triggers the starter. If it does the relay is faulty.

Check the battery voltage - if it's under 9V it won't try to crank over.

There are several things you can try. Have you tried sliding across the hood? When was the last time you jumped anything with it? When was the last car chase with the sheriff?
