How to determine when to stop tube feeding someone in Hospice?
My niece's grandmother is in Hospice now and her daughter decided to remove the feeding tube. She can still recognize people but can't talk. I don't see how you can take away nourishment from someone. Please advise.

If the grandmother has decided on a DNR (do not resuscitate), this means she wants no extra measures taken to help her survive.
Following the wishes of the person is the best, but I believe all measures should be taken to preserve life.
The grandmother has/had the right to decide whether or not extra measures should be taken to help her survive.

There is something wrong here, a nursing facility cannot refuse to feed someone, A patient can refuse to eat or refuse treatment. If Mom stops all food and had refused treatment if she lapses into a coma, she could live a couple months most likely. What does the future hold seems like a rather obvious question - she seems to be ready for death, if that is what she wants she should be allowed some dignity and her wishes should be honored.
