Pour spouts for olive oil bottles & longevity of oil?

I'd like to use the pour spouts for olive oil bottles. It's just me in my household and i go through the oil slowly.

I'd like the control of the spout as opposed to getting too much oil in what i'm cooking and always having some drip down the side of the bottle but if it admits too much air into the bottle and spoils the oil before it's used up that would be defeating the purpose.

Does anyone have clear and verified facts about this?

Thanks in advance for your help. I appreciate it.

Various oils will last different amounts of time under different conditions (light, heat, air).

Re olive oils in particular, the virgin ones will develop slightly off flavors before the regular or refined ones will. It takes a long time for them to actually "go bad" though.

I also prefer using those bottles, but I keep only half the spouted bottle full at a time and out on the counter, and keep whatever's left in the original bottle in the back of the frig.

When I need to refill the spouted bottle, I just leave the oil out a day or so for the solids to become liquid again, decant another half spouted-bottle-full, then put any remaining original oil back in the frig.

You could cut down on the light reaching the oil in the spouted bottle by covering it with something light-proof or at least somewhat opaque, and you can cut down on the heat by keeping the bottle low somewhere or at least away from the cooktop or warm areas. The spout configuration actually prevents much air from getting in too, and would affect only the very top layer of the oil anyway.

I think you should be thinking more of storage and bottle size as the spout issue is a matter of convenience. Oil should be kept in a cool dark cupboard or shelf where light and heat will not degrade the product. If you use very little then a half liter bottle or can would be adequate. I use Colavita for general use which often is on sale.

I use recycled ketchup bottles for this sort of thing. They work great for oil and homemade salad dressing. I also love these bottles for watering my house plants.

I use a maple syrup pour container. You can control the pour rate and it does cover over when not in use. Keep it in a dark, cool cupboard. You can buy one for a couple of bucks at any kitchen store.
