  • Making vegetable/mineral stock.?

I have been saving and freezing vegetable scraps to make some stock with. Veggies that are not normally used in soups like cucumber, zucchini, etc... have just been put to compost. since they really don't seem to go with the usual suspects. Should I be including these "odd" stock scraps for the broth or would it taste strange or off as I am imagining?

  • Poached seasoned, marinated chicken for Chinese salad?

For Chinese chicken salad i poach and shred the chicken. It is fine out of the salted water but plain until the dressing is added. Is there a simple marinade for the chicken after poaching that is simple but not the salad dressing itself? Can meats marinated prior to poaching effective at all?

  • Can a built-in microwave be replaced with a "regular" one?

  • Conducting credit checks?

What resources are available that i might do credit checks of prospective tenants? I am an individual handling the details myself and don't know how to go about this. I have offered to pay a couple of property management companies to do these for me but they are either hesitant or too busy. Is Creditkarma.com a reliable source? I am clueless. Thanks in advance your your time and help.

  • Medicare/Medi-Cal question?

Do we pay into Medicare by part in what is deducted from our paychecks throughout our lives and how are the amounts of our premiums decided?

Also, as i understand it, Medi-Cal is for those not able to afford insurance. Do those using Medi-Cal owe co-pays for doctor visits and surgery?

    I appreciate the help.

  • What was the name of the (now dead) horror collector who has some books out?

He was really well known in horror and film circles and lived in L.A. or Hollywood (maybe on Hollywood Blvd.) and was still alive into the eighties and maybe early nineties. He may have sold items as well in his younger days. He was really popular and i need his name.

    Can you help? Thanks.

  • Need some info about mononucleosis?

Is it at all possible for mono to last for four years and can it ever go into a remission type of phase or actually go away for a short period before being detected again? Any ideas of what could be mistaken for mono? A co-worker has claimed this and i wonder if it isn't hepatitis or possibly something else.

  • By law, must restaurants in California provide water free of charge?

The restaurant in question is a sit down restaurant as opposed to a stand. It has been in operation for decades and has just begun to charge .25 for a bottle of water and providing no tap water whatsoever. (They do have fountain drinks and a full bar)

Granted, 25 cents is very inexpensive for a bottle of water and it is nice to have the option but is it legal? Wouldn't eating establishments need to provide drinking water at no cost? I saw a court case years back about a roller rink that charged for water. They lost, but i don't know in which state.

    Anyone know anything about this?

    Thanks.

  • Bach Flower Rescue Remedy used on cats (dogs).?

Does anyone have any experience using Rescue Remedy on house pets for various reasons?

My cat has begun cleaning herself compulsively and over doing it to such an extent she smells like wet cat a lot and is damp to the touch at times. She'll even snap out of a sleep, give herself a bunch of licks then drop right back to sleep as if she hasn't awoken.

He vet is aware of this and we have decided to give her some time as this behavior has piggy backed another medical problem.

In the past i have had friends who gave their cats Rescue Remedy in small, increasing increments for about a week when getting them ready for a car trip. The cats were calm and traveled well but i am not in touch with these people any longer for advice.

I have decided to try this for my cat for her compulsion but am in the dark as to how much to start with, how to increase, the duration and how much i can expose her to over time.

She weighs 6 pounds 7 ounces and has no kidney or liver problems. She doesn't do this out of uncleanliness, fleas, pain or itching. In fact, if i put my hand, finger or arm over the area she is grooming she'll just clean me and be satisfied with that.

My concern is that it is in an alcohol suspension and she is so skinny at the moment. There is another brand w/o alcohol but it does not seem to have the effectiveness of RR. The strength of the herbs is a question as well.

Thanks so much for any advise or help you might be able to give me.

  • Pour spouts for olive oil bottles & longevity of oil?

I'd like to use the pour spouts for olive oil bottles. It's just me in my household and i go through the oil slowly.

I'd like the control of the spout as opposed to getting too much oil in what i'm cooking and always having some drip down the side of the bottle but if it admits too much air into the bottle and spoils the oil before it's used up that would be defeating the purpose.

Does anyone have clear and verified facts about this?

Thanks in advance for your help. I appreciate it.
