What is VDC on a car?

I've been looking at videos of cars with VDC(mostly subaru)...and it seems that they get more traction going up a hill with VDC OFF instead of ON. Is the VDC's role supposed to benefit you from going uphill? Cause it sure doesn't look like it.

    It is secure and trust for you, after all, you are going up a hill,your attention can draw VDC and also can arise any problem. So VDC off position is better then on.I hope you get your accurate answer.Thanks.
