Best neighbourhood to live in in San Francisco?

I'm moving to San Francisco in June and I'm trying to sort out accommodation for the summer. I'm just wondering which neighbourhood would be best to live in in terms of rent/nightlife/jobs.

Any help would be appreciated!

North beach is for clueless tourists. Union street had its best days in the 70's.
