My engine light has come on?
The oil, the rad fluid, brake fluid is all full and I did not have to add any today but my engine light was on. I checked the air filter and it was clean. The belts are all tight. This is a 2001 Chev Silverado. Anyone have an idea of why the engine light comes on? In the message center it says nothing.

You need someone to put a code reader on it to see what the computer code says. There are literally hundreds of reasons why the light came on. Anyone who would even guess what the cause is without knowing what the code reader says knows nothing about vehicle repair.

A private mechanic or Chevrolet Dealer with an up-to-date plug engine analyzer in to your on-board computer will tell you exactly what's causing the light to come on as per the code that has caused to light to come on
The problem with outfits such as Advance Auto and Auto Zone they'll do it free and they'll give you a list of "could-be's" never a definite answer.
It could be the mass air flow sensor, MAP sensor, one of the two oxygen sensors, low fuel pressure caused by a plugged fuel filter or weak electric fuel pump pressure. Last but not least the most expensive part of all, the catalytic converter.

Sometimes a bad oxygen sensor will set off the engine light, sometimes it's just nothing, I'd have someone use OBD2 scanner to see what that says it is.

check engine is not for any of the things you checked.
go to an auto shop and have the code read then you will know why it is one.
