What happens if someone test drives a car and crashes?
Lets say you're buying a car. Everyone needs to test drive it but if you do this and crash, what happens? Are you covered?
I sound stupid i know but thought there might be a policy in place.
Anyway thanks

Your ins, or if you have none, YOU pay.
When I sell a car, I make sure all repairs and services are done and the car has NO flaws. THEN, I tell a potential buyer that I will drive them around and let them observe how the car acts.
If they decide to proceed with the purchase, I take the money, meaning the sale is completed, and at THAT point allow them to drive the car with the understanding that if, after driving it, they DON'T want it, (never has happened yet) I give back the money and say goodbye.
If they crash or in any other way damage the car while driving it, even if it's not their fault, (again, I tell them in advance) I would hand them the pink slip and say: "you just bought a car you damaged pal" have fun.

UK LAW
the "buyer " of your car on a test drive is only insured if they have fully comprehensive insurance that covers them ( usually third party only ) to drive other cars with owners permission. If they can prove this then ok, if not DO NOT let them drive as they are NOT insured ( you could also be prosecuted for allowing uninsured to drive your vehicle ). Its also a good idea to make sure they actually have a valid driving licence. Hope this helps.

If you are buying from a garage they have insurance. If it is a private sale then the person is probably not insured for you to drive. It will be illegal for you to test drive on the open road

A dealer car SHOULD have insurance, a private seller won't. If you crash a car from a private seller you're probably not insured.

Your insurance company will pay out first, assuming you still have it on the car. The driver's insurance will pay out second, again assuming they have insurance on their current car.
