It really is a sad reflection on the state of Education, when you refer to a classic novel about a dystopian society, and the first comment you get references an inane TV show, specifically designed for the brain dead.

Ir proves your point though, much more than one step too far.

Rook 101,where is the one in Your Town ?

    Source(s): Pls excuse mis-spelling of " dtstopian " I don't have time to search a dictionary,and spell check comes up with " dustbin",a reflection too ?

Your Telegraph article was posted in 2006, so it's not exactly current.

That aside, it depends on what side of the argument you sit.

The headline is negative in that it asserts the word 'spy' and all that

it implies. Between 2006 and now a lot of surveillance has been

carried out on potential terrorist's movements. Very often CCTV footage is the

only evidence of a perpetrators movements. This goes for murderer's

and abductor's, rapist's and street assaults. A lot of rioter's were caught

via CCTV. So there are many plus points.

Moreover areas's that do have a problem with crime also welcome the extra security

camera's give. However, it's fair to say there has to be balance between

freedom and security. Counterbalancing laws, intelligence and effective training

of CCTV operators are essential in maintaining the good will of the people.

Orwell may well have been right, but only partially. Don't forget the context

in which '1984' was written, the book serving as a warning of Stalinist

    Russia.

Its just a continuance of whats been 'slowly' happening over the last 40+yrs.!!

And there are people out there that 'still really believe' we all live in a 'democracy' in the UK.

The opinions of the people/public are last in the conga-line of suppression of the peoples opinions/demands etc by our elected governments of....whatever governing political party.

Our governments are 'no longer' answerable to the peoples (democracy) - the peoples are 'all answerable' to our governments (dictatorship)....or else.!!

Get used to it - because....it ain't gonna change anytime soon.

These terrorist 'protection' rulings gave our governments the excuse they have been waiting for over the years - that being the total surveillance of the people at all times - assisting our government in the total control of the peoples - all under the guise of ....protecting us all....they now have a free-licence to do exactly as they please.

Storing innocent children's DNA is a step too far. Further the digital economy act is a step too far in my opinion.

Source(s): Edit: Adam, i dont expect your apology and i am offended, please hang your head in shame and consider self-flagellation.

They are NOT watching at all not like you think.

Millions and millions of YOUR tax pounds are being spent.

Especially just after the budget on hundreds of contracts.

For fibre optics to be installed all over UK including CCTV.

And meanwhile 125,000 immigrants are unnacounted.

And some 78,000 missing unnacounted asylum seekers.

Big brother isn't watching he is sitting or slouching and chatting.

With his hands in his idle G4S pockets and missing all kinds !

Europe throughout is calmly organised and ticks over.

Get to any airport - rail station - or transit point in UK.

You have swarms of overweight jobsworths in yellow jackets.

Doing jack shite other than trying awkwardly to look important.

And blabbing down their hand held radios like overgrown kids.

Over someone walking around with a TWIX he hasn't paid for.

    Note !

    =====

WE WILL NOT TOLERATE RACIST THREATENING or ANY OTHER ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR.

ANYONE SPITTING AT OUR STAFF WILL BE PROSECUTED.

    VIOLENCE TOWARD OUR STAFF

    WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

ALL OUR STORES ARE RECORDED ON CCTV for your safety.
